BMW knows how to persuade and make their fans excited about their upcoming vehicles. In fact, the automaker has released a silhouette image as a teaser for its new 8 Series coupe, revealing a firm new design that deserves to be the company's flagship. And after months of speculation, BMW has confirmed that a new 8 Series coupe in 2018 is on its way.

New BMW 8 Series Coupe Confirmed

Harald Krüger, BWM's Chairman of the Board of Management, announced the plans of the company at the Annual General Meeting today. He mentioned that the BMW 8 Series Coupe will build according to the tradition of luxurious sports coupes and will combine a genuine dream car and "a slice of pure automotive fascination. “The 8 Series Coupe will underpin our claim to leadership in the luxury segment," Krüger added.

According to MotorTrend, BMW's teaser image shows a low-slung coupe with a long hood and very wide haunches. The silhouette illustration also resembles the look of 8 Series prototypes that fans have recently seen running around the roads. These sleek designs make sense since Krüger also claimed that the upcoming BMW 8 Series will be the true luxury sports coupe.

New BMW 8 Series Coupe Concept

The original BMW 8 series was a technological powerhouse, but eventually a failure in the marketplace. As reported by Jalopnik, BMW was doomed by the rise of SUVs of rivals at the expense of coupes, its enormous price tag, and its complicated creation. After years of realization, the automaker becomes one of those enthusiasts who are willing to put up with its many twists in exchange for its bold looks and power design. We’ll see if the upcoming 8 Series can do it all great.

Powertrain alternatives remain unclear as of now because BWM doesn't have any official announcement yet. However, the 8 Series could have similar engines with the 7 Series vehicles, including a 3.0-liter turbo-six, a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V-12, and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8. When it comes to market, the BMW 8 Series will compete against the Lexus LC 500 and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
