Meme Turned Reality: Rihanna And Lupita Nyong'o To Star In New Netflix Movie

A meme that went viral last month has turned into a dream come true when it was revealed that Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o will be working together in a new movie. The film project will be produced by Netflix and Ava DuVernay will be working on it.

For quite some time, a photo of singer Rihanna and actress Lupita Nyong’o went viral on Twitter after a Tumblr post suggested that they looked like two characters in a make-believe heist movie. The photo was of them sitting beside each other at the Miu Miu show in the Paris Fashion Week in March 2014. The original poster, which cannot be traced anymore, pointed out that Rihanna looked like a con artist that scams rich men while Nyong’o plays the smart best friend who helps in the planning and hacking.

It seems like the meme has picked up the interest of producers as it has just been announced that the two will be working together in an upcoming movie. Rihanna and Nyong’o landed roles in a film project that Netflix is working on. Rumor has it that the meme went viral enough that the idea was pitched and Netflix went lengths to win the bid to pitch. However, it has not been confirmed whether or not Netflix will be sticking to the original idea or that have a better story prepared for the two stars.

Ava DuVernay is reportedly going to direct the untitled Netflix movie, which is planned to release sometime in 2018. DuVernay has worked on several films and her notable projects are “Selma” and “13th". It was revealed that she will start working on the new Netflix film starring Rihanna and Nyong’o as soon as she’s done working on “A Wrinkle in Time”, which is an up and coming movie adaptation of the novel of the same title.
