In less than a month from now, the 2017 National American International Auto Show will be held at the iconic Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. The show is well known for presenting new cars, both concept and production, and giving awards. The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV that has already received past awards is expected to still gain some more during the show.

The Bolt EV Is Expecting Another Award

The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV has already received awards from Green Car Reports as the Best New Car to Buy, Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal, Motor Trends 2017 Car of the year and has also been included in the list of Car and Driver 10 Best Cars. The Bolt EV is expected to receive the North American Car of the Year award at the 2017 National American International Auto Show as well. The little Chevy will be competing with brands such as Hyundai for their Genesis G90 model and Volvo's S90. The Chevy Bolt is significantly more affordable than the other two.

Better Range Than An i3, Cheaper Than A Tesla

A major possibility of getting the award is due to the Chevy Bolt EV's affordability, power and battery range. Other models like the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S has promised the same factors but has failed to do so. The Tesla Model S is capable of reaching up to 265 miles on a single charge but has an enormous price tag $70,000 dollars. The BMW i3 is much cheaper than the Tesla but is more expensive than the Bolt EV at $44,000 dollars, it is only capable of reaching up to a 114-mile range on a single charge. The Chevy Bolt EV only costs $30,000 dollars and is capable of going up to 238 miles on a single charge clearly wins over the other two choices, in terms of affordability and range.

Stress-Free Maintenance

"Chevrolet is on a roll with new and compelling vehicles, the Bolt EV is certainly a game-changing vehicle," stated Ed Loh, editor-in-chief of Motor Trend. The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV also has a downloadable PDF manual that is easy to understand and easily accessible through the Internet. Aside from regular tire rotations, and cabin air filter replacement, the only other major maintenance that the Bolt EV needs is to replace the coolant after the first 150,000 miles. General Motors also stated that the battery degradation of 10 to 40 percent is expected to occur during the vehicle within the eight-year warranty period or within 100,000 miles.

The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV will also accept a minimum of 80 kilowatts for its DC fast charging. The Bolt EV's fast charging system uses what they call the CSS protocol that adds at least 90 miles of range in just 30 minutes. However, no announcements have been made yet by General Motors if they will be expanding the DC Fast charging stations, at least for now. The 2017 National American International Auto Show will be held from January 8 to 22. The North American Car of The Year awarding is scheduled to happen on January 9 at 7 in the morning, Eastern Time.
