Pokemon GO On Apple Watch: Ups And Downs Of Playing It

Pokemon GO on Apple Watch seems a dream a come true to fans of both accessory and mobile game. The tandem certainly has its advantages although there are also limitations as well.

Apple Watch Good For Hatching Eggs Only

Pokemon GO players can now let their Apple Watch do the tracking whenever they walk to hatch their eggs, according to Niantic. With the freezing weather and safety concerns, you no longer need to take out your phone. Unfortunately, there is little else you could do with it. Catching Pokemon, transferring and evolving them will still require the use of the phone. Fortunately, players who can't go out due to bad weather can still hatch their eggs inside using the Apple Watch. The accessory can still faithfully track your distance even if you are only pacing back and forth in a room.

Features Include Pokemon Nearby Notification

Another advantage for Apple Watch users is the nearby Pokemon and Pokestops notification is also available. You simply need to adjust the Watch's setting for the notification. Pokemon GO players will still need the phone though to catch the Pokemon or collect the Pokestop items. Unfortunately, the Apple Watch can't be set to notify you about a particular Pokemon only. As mentioned earlier, the accessory can only accomplish features that don't require active participation from the user.

Need to Restart a Lot

There is one big drawback though that can greatly affect the user experience (UX) of Pokemon GO on Apple Watch. It seems the mobile game has a nasty habit of frequently crashing while it's in the accessory. It's still unclear if this crash bug is temporary or there is a possible factor that causes it. Neither mobile game developer Niantic or Apple has made any explanation about it. Still, many of the technical issues can be cleared by an update or two from either the two companies or both.
