Overwatch News: The Reason Why The New Symmetra Will Not Be Released With Season 3

Blizzard officially announced today that Symmetra will "not come soon," which hinted out that the reworked version of the hero will not be available with the release of Season 3 which is due to launch today, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m EST. Today, we're going to discuss the reason why Symmetra will not be added in to the game and why Blizzard does not intend to do so anytime soon.

Reworked Symmetra

First off, let's delve into the new Symmetra rework. In the PTR, Symmetra is now considered very viable in any team composition following the addition of her second ultimate that practically counters any Genji users out there. Her ultimate effectively gives +75 shields on the entire team which can also stack with other shields (even from multiple Symmetras) which definitely increases the survival rate of the group.

Aside from her ultimate, her Photon Barrier also provides potential clutch plays for the group, being one of the barriers that can effectively shield squishy-mobile offensive heroes. With the buff in Soldier 76 and D.Va, Reinhard is no longer as essential to the team as he was once were. Therefore, the meta is now currently moving towards multiple hybrid Tanks and supports that can effectively give survivability on the go.

Why Symmetra Will Not Come With Season 3

The main reason why Symmetra won't be released anytime soon despite her significant boost is that, the hero still has a lot of balancing tweaks to be made in order for her to be competitively viable. Season 3 should be a continuation of the skills from day 1 up to the next Season and thus, adding Symmetra mid-season will just disrupt the ebb and flow of the game in the competitive point-of-view.

Keep in mind that Season 3 will mark the start of the competitive changes that Blizzard is about to incorporate in Overwatch which was discussed in this article. Season 3 will also mark the rise of the new meta and so it's interesting to see how the competitive ladder will change drastically following the revamp of the SR system.
