Samsung Galaxy S5 to have OIS, not Galaxy Note 3

Phablet lovers are eagerly waiting for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and recent rumors suggest that the handset won't have optical image stabilization (OIS), but the next-generation Galaxy S5 will.

We are just a few days away from the launch of one of the most-awaited phablets of this year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, on Sept. 4 and rumors continue to emerge regarding the hardware specifications of the upcoming handset.

According to Korean publication ETNews, an unnamed Samsung official has revealed the Galaxy Note 3 won't get a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS, but a 13-megapixel camera just like the Galaxy S4.

"Samsung Electronics, which must procure the tens of millions parts, cannot but be uneasy about its supply chain," said a Samsung Electronics official (via ETNews). "This is why the OIS function was installed on G2 of LG Electronics, but cannot be found on Galaxy Note 3."

The Korean company has already launched its first flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4. The ETNews report suggests that due to issues pertaining to parts supply of 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS, the Galaxy Note 3 won't have OIS. However, the company expects to deploy the technology in its next year's flagship handset due to be launched in early 2014.

The Galaxy S4 is currently amongst the best-selling Android smartphones available on the market. The handset is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. If rumors are to be believed, then we'll see Samsung bump up the Galaxy S5's camera to 16-megapixel with OIS.

Samsung enthusiasts may find it too early to get details of the Galaxy S5 and the company may release the handset no sooner than March or April next-year. For now some customers would be enjoying the Galaxy S4 and many customers would be waiting to get their hands on the Galaxy Note 3.

The Galaxy Note 2 was one of the most powerful phablets available on the market at launch. Competition in the bigger handset space has increased but phablet lovers will hope that the Galaxy Note 3 packs in top-end hardware specifications and the latest available software features.

If you are waiting to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, are you disappointed that the handset won't include OIS?
