Microsoft Working On Pre-Touch For Kinect-Like Interface [Watch]

Since 2014, it was believed that Microsoft would take a shot at an interface similar to Kinect for smartphones. However, that never became a reality on a gadget. And yet now the research team of the Redmond tech titan has released a video demonstrating its work on a relative interface.

The video released by the Microsoft Research on its YouTube channel is titled Pre-Touch Sensing for Mobile Interaction, demonstrates how clients will be able to work in tandem with a smartphone's touchscreen show even without actually touching the surface, by just moving their fingers over it, Fit n Hit reported.

The video is an indication of the fact of how the Pre-Touch innovation is able to incisively understand the difference between comparable motions like swiping and selecting. According to reports, the new technology that will revolutionize the manner in which users interact with touchscreens and may even help Microsoft put behind its Windows 8 days.

Currently, the new sensing technology is said to be in prototype phases. It utilizes a self-capacitive touchscreen and the ability of a smartphone to sense the way a user is holding the device. In addition, the system is also able to sense when and where the fingers of a user are hovering over the touchscreen and adapt user interfaces consequently in real time.

Moreover, the new technology enables the device to foresee future interactions with the user founded on its orientation. Actions that require accurate control or interactions in apps devoid of touching the screen are also possible, The Country Caller reported.

As of now, it is not certain as to when or if at all Microsoft will integrate the Pre-Touch innovation in its cell phones. Apparently, it is expected that the much anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone may come with this new technology. There are reports that Microsoft may launch the Surface Phone anytime between the second half of 2016 to mid-2017.

Moreover, there is speculation that the Microsoft Surface Phone may come in three variations. According to a latest report related to the Surface Phone, the cell phone is likely to be controlled by a Snapdragon 830 SoC, coupled with 8GB of RAM.
