'Hellblade' Trailer Review: Discover Senua's Cuckoo Side

Well-known video game developer Ninja Theory has just unleashed a "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" development diary, discussing the game's combat details. The video also focuses on the protagonist's in-game movements as well as her design. These are just among the many things fans can expect from the upcoming title.

According to Hardcore Gamer, the recently released combat trailer for "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" offers an in-depth preview of the game's protagonist Senua. And compared to the Vikings, she is a bit small and weak in terms of physicality. However, for senior developer Juan Fernandez, they did this to make her look and feel vulnerable, contrary to what superheroes usually are.

While this vulnerability may seem to denote a negative impression, it actually fits well to the "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" gameplay. For the devs, it allows players to explore the Celtic warrior's cuckoo side, as she is, in fact, suffering with mental illness such as anxiety, depression and delusions.

In terms of the "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" combat style, it appears to put 1-on-1 battles in the spotlight, as reported by Twinfinite. And while the in-game sound effects are truly an art of work, the game's lack of HUD along with some visual and/or audio cues make it an interesting one to play.

It should be noted that Ninja Theory is best known for developing high-intensity action video games, such as "Heavenly Sword" and the highly celebrated "Devil May Cry." So with "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" taking a slower combat pace, it does look like a bit of a challenge for them.

Nonetheless, just by looking at the video, it seems the studio is indeed on its way to meet its goals. And, for sure, fans can surely expect"Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" to meet expectations.

Although there is yet to be an exact date, "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" is confirmed to hit the shelves later this year. It will be made available for both PlayStation 4 and PC.

Check out the combat trailer below and be amazed with the prowess of the Celtic goddess Senua.
