Microsoft Surface Pro: Is Toshiba WT310 A Worthy Rival?

The Microsoft Surface Pro and Microsoft Surface RT have definitely been the cause of some controversy over the last few months, as everyone - including Microsoft itself - seems to be wondering what has been going wrong.

Part of the trouble stems from the confessedly high price of the Microsoft Surface Pro, part of it comes from the fact that Microsoft might not have been doing a very good job in the marketing of the product ... and part of it comes from the fact that we've seen so many other great tablets on the market as of late.

Add to the list of Microsoft Surface Pro challengers the forthcoming Toshiba WT310, which - yes - will be powered by Windows 8. The new tablet from Toshiba will also come with an Intel processor, that is likely to be the i5, and an 11.6 inch screen.

According to Gizbot, other specs/features for the Microsoft Surface Pro competitor, the Toshiba WT310, include:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4
  • USB 3.0
  • HDMI
  • Wireless streaming streaming via WiDi
  • Optional 4G
  • 825 grams
  • Steel Gray color
  • Full HD screen

The Toshiba WT310 will also come with an Ethernet port, a DigitizerPen that can be used as the potential Microsoft Surface Pro rival's input device and an optional dock that can be used in offices.

"It appears that the Toshiba WT310 is primarily targeted at enterprise section," Gizbot says, though it adds that because there's still a lot unknown about the Microsoft Surface Pro alternative (including price), just about anything is possible when it comes to this new tablet that is set for the UK market.

"With no official pricing revealed by Toshiba, it is set to compete with Microsoft Surface Pro and HP ElitePad 900," Gizbot says.

"The tablet is due in the UK this quarter," Laptop confirms. "There's no word yet about U.S. availability. Although there's no official price yet, the list of features and its aim at business users hint at a healthy price tag."
