Why Dragon Quest Heroes 2 Is So Special

The very first Dragon Quest Heroes game can be fondly remembered of being a satisfying title ever developed. It was a great combination of all Dragon Quest creatures and characters, only with Dynasty Warriors' battle styles and structure. Now, with the release of the sequel titled Dragon Quest Heroes 2, many would expect of fun and impressive stuff. Unfortunately, it isn't.

According to Kotaku, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 fails to deliver the kind of excitement and experience the original title offers. It is merely a Dragon Quest game in its most organic form. Nevertheless, this does not totally affect the game; that it does not necessarily result to it being an unsuccessful one.

First off, the graphics of Dragon Quest Heroes 2 are still sharp and, well, even better than before. The dialogue and voice acting, in particular, are quite commendable. The battle sequences famously known in the original game are still present in the sequel, though they are now mandatory for players to progress. Add to this the fact that the journey in the middle part is a whole lot more exciting.

Sure, it may not be as impressive as the first Dragon Quest Heroes game. However, in one way or another, it offers a different route that is worth taking. The sequel starts with the lead characters, a pair of cousins, basically. They are suddenly caught in a surprise conflict between two kingdoms that have reign in peace. As their adventure goes through, they meet new friends and/or acquaintances who will help them battle the evil lurking.

IGN notes that the story circulating Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is an evident improvement. This is even made better with the addition of moment-to-moment gameplay, which was meant to immortalize the role-playing adventures that first inspired the game. Aside from this, players are introduced to a semi-open world where they can explore at their own will. Although, in order to do so, they must unlock each region first.

Overall, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is a success of its own. It may fail to deliver some elements that the first game offers, it definitely has its own greatness to share. The gameplay are satisfying while the revolution of the story is quite compelling. Well, at the end of the day, this is how sequels should be done.
