American Airlines Passengers Hear Unusual Moaning, Groaning From Loudspeakers During Flights

Frequent flyers probably know the nightmare of having a crying, unconsolable child on their flight. There was even a child that won't let up from their crying for the whole eight-hour flight from Germany to New York, per The Independent.

However, there was one flight that could have the chance to topple that on weirdness alone.

Los Angeles-based actor Emerson Collins took to Twitter to post a video of him in an American Airlines plane with an intercom speaker blurting our weird sounds.

Collins' flight lasted around three hours, meaning he and the passengers in his flight listened to the weird sounds for that long.

American Airlines Weird Flight Details

Collins mentioned on his Twitter account that the weird sounds on his flight's intercom started before take-off, suggesting that either someone in the cockpit accidentally turned the PA system or that someone hacked into it.

Collins described the weird sound as "a cross between explosive diarrhea, vomiting, and a weird, vaguely sexual moan," according to Gizmodo. He also mentioned that the sound returned to the PA system every two to three minutes for the flight 30 minutes of the flight.

However, other publications, including Gizmodo itself, have their own ways of detailing it. Gizmodo mentioned that the sounds were a "bad impressions of Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster," while the Los Angeles Times called it a loud groan from pain or pleasure.

This description is based on Collin's own, who said that the noise "was either someone's unfortunate food poisoning in the bathroom or, like, someone with an uncomfortable approach to personal satisfaction."

Regardless of what it was, flight attendants assured Collins and his fellow passengers that there was nothing to worry about and that the crew was not the source of the bizarre sounds.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we realize there is an extremely irritating sound coming over the public announcements," the flight attendant said in Collins' video. "The flight deck is trying to troubleshoot, trying to turn it off, so please be patient with us. We know this is a very add anomaly and none of us are enjoying it."

Eventually, Collins wanted to find the source of the problem himself during the flight, resulting in him "walking the aisles like Nancy Drew" and looking around the plane for the person making the weird noises.

Much to his dismay, however, there was no one on the plane with managed to hack into the plane's PA system, nor was there anyone having a great time creating the sounds as a prank.

Collins then gave up his investigation and settled in for the rest of the flight, which didn't have a "climactic" bizarre noise at its end.

'Buggy' Plane PA System?

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time an American Airlines flight was haunted by these strange, bizarre sounds. Technology executive Bradley P. Allen also went through the same disturbing experience during his flight from John F. Kennedy Airport to Los Angeles International Airport in July.

Although both people heard the same sound, Allen experienced the noise sporadically.

Another occurrence happened much later, according to Twitter user @xJonNYC. According to their tweet, the American Airlines plane he rode had its PA system produce moaning and screaming sounds, which disturbed passengers.

American Airlines investigated the issues and said the sound was caused by a "mechanical issue." It also added that it is impossible for a hacker to compromise their planes' PA systems as they are hardwired and has no external access.
