Motorola Reconsiders Android 8.0 Oreo Update for Moto G4 Plus
Moto G4 Plus owners are in for some great news as Motorola has finally reconsidered its decision to release Android 8.0 Oreo update for the flagship handset. The company has done a U-turn to honor its promise, after drawing severe criticism from top publications like Android Police over its inadequate software support.
Here is that Motorola had to say in an official statement in response to the tech publication's recent report:
"It's been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It's our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it's important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information."
Motorola's decision to reconsider its promise comes as a compensation for its oversight and mistake in the published content used in marketing materials. The company, however, has not been so generous with the standard G4 model and G4 Play, as they are not destined to receive any Oreo update.
The official statement clearly specifies the company guidelines to rollout just one major update for the Moto G family in line with its tradition. However, given the power-packed features of the Moto G4, it seems the potential of these devices are underutilized.
Despite the Moto G series being marketed in the mid-range segment, one cannot really undermine the potential of a G4 device which is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0GHz and paired with 4GB of RAM. So, it's a bit of a letdown for the users of regular Moto G4 variant as they won't be getting any official Oreo update.
Although the official Android Oreo update seems like some consolation for the Moto G4 Plus owners, they still have the better option of flashing the LineageOS Oreo ROM instead of waiting for several more months for the official release.
