PlayStation 4 goes up for pre-order in U.S. and UK

Sony has taken the wraps off the much-anticipated PlayStation 4 (PS4) and now the gaming console is already up for pre-order on various U.S. and UK retailers.

At the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 10, Sony revealed details of PS4 and now, gamers will be hoping to lay their hands on the upcoming gaming console as early as possible.

In the U.S., GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy have already started to take pre-order of the PS4. Sony revealed at the E3 event that PS4 will have a price tag of $399.99 and Amazon and Best Buy are taking pre-orders of the console at this price. At the time of writing the article, GameStop was taking pre-orders only for PS4 package deals, which ranged from $459.98 to $579.96.

Sony has not revealed the price of PS4 in the UK, but many retailers have already started taking pre-orders for the gaming console. PlayStation's UK website has listed the retailers who are taking pre-orders for the PS4. The list includes retailers like Game, ShopTo.net, Sainsbury's, ASDA and TESCO. To secure the PS4 from Game, ASDA or TESCO you need to put an initial deposit of £20.

Announced as the successor to the PlayStation 3 (PS3), the PS4 is expected to hit the shelves in the latter part of 2013. Sony released the PS3 in Nov. 2006 and since then gamers have waited for several years for the launch of the next generation console.

The next-generation PS4 is one of the most-wanted gaming consoles and it will compete with the recently revealed Xbox One and the Nintendo Wii U. Recent reports indicate that PS4 is more popular than Xbox One because used games can be played on PS4 and because the gamer doesn't need to be 'always online.'

PS4 will be hitting most markets in time for the Holiday Season, though gamers in some countries may have to wait until 2014 to grab the latest gaming console.
