2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe: Details and prices announced

Hours after images of the 2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe leaked online, BMW officially has outed the specs and prices for the new sporty coupe on June 15. The new 4 Series Coupe will take the place of the 3 Series Coupe and sends out a challenge for other top car brands such as Audi and Mercedes.

The 2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe will hit showrooms in the United States this summer. The midsize coupe will be wider and have a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. It will also sit closer to the ground than the 3 Series Coupe.

The new BMW coupe will come in two variants in the U.S., the 435i and the 428i. The 435i has a starting tag price of $46,925 and can go as high as $48925 for an all-wheel drive setup. The 428i will be sold starting at $41,125 and $43,425 for an AWD.

"The new BMW 4 Series Coupe embodies the very essence of aesthetic appeal and dynamics in the premium segment. Its stylistic features carry the promise of a powerful presence on the road, stand-out dynamic ability and driving pleasure in abundance," BMW described the new member of its lineup through a press release.

"The "4" in its title headlines this new era for the Coupe and emphasises not only its stand-alone design, but also an even greater technical differentiation from its BMW 3 Series cousins," the announcement stated.

The 2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe 428i will sport a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 435i will be the more potent version with a three-liter six-cylinder powerplant under its hood. The engines make use of the TwinPower Turbo technology and cranks out between 184 HP and 306 HP.

The top of the line 435i with the 300-HP engine can blast from 0 to 60 miles an hour in just 5.3 seconds using the manual transmission and even faster at 5.0 seconds with the eight-speed automatic gearbox. The top speed is claimed to be 155 mph.

The 4 Series Coupe transfers the power of the engine to the wheels using a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. An all-wheel drive configuration that makes use of an eight-speed automatic transmission comes as an option.

The 2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe will come in Luxury Sport, or M Sport trims. It will come with a full-color HUD, a new navigation system, Active Cruise Control, LED High Beam Assistant, and a host of safety features.
