Weight loss tool: Smart cookie jar time locks food (smash it if you can't resist temptation)

Trying to lose some weight but cannot resist temptation? Dieters who know their wills will falter now has a reliable weight loss tool in the form of a smart cookie jar called Kitchen Safe, which time locks food.

The Kitchen Safe has been designed by a San Francisco-based company founded by David Krippendorf, who himself struggled with weight problems and bad snacking habits.

"Even though I am big into fitness, I had put on some extra pounds from snacking on junk food before dinner. I wanted a tool to help me enjoy the occasional dessert, without the temptation to snack throughout the day," said Krippendorf on the Kickstarter page of Kitchen Safe.

"My first solution involved my wife Jenny hiding the junk food, but in the event of a strong craving, I could find anything. After playing hide and seek with my cookies for a few years, the idea dawned on me. If I had a container with a timed locking mechanism to store my food, I would not be able to snack, and my wife and I could stop with the hide and seek games," he added.

The Kitchen Safe is made of plastic and is equipped with a time lock that will not open the lid even when one removes the battery. It can be set to lock in an item for as short as a minute or as long as 10 days.

According to the maker, the Kitchen Safe is not only a weight loss tool for those with a sweet tooth, but also the smart cookie jar can also be used to store and lock gadgets, money or credit card to avoid overspending, and help curb addiction by storing cigarettes and alcohol, among other things. The container measures 6 x 6 x 6.5 inches. It operates using a pair of AA batteries that is expected to last for about half a year.

The Kitchen safe is practically cheat-proof. Once time-locked, the container can only be opened by destroying the container using a hammer.

The makers of Kitchen Safe are trying to raise funds through Kickstarter. At the time of reporting, it has raised more than $28,000 of the $30K goal.
