Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with 5.99-inch Super AMOLED flexible display expected in September

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 expected to launch in September, rumors of what the company plans on introducing have kicked into high gear. A new report claims Samsung will launch the phablet in September and it will feature a 5.99-inch Super AMOLED flexible display.

Samsung launched its original Galaxy Note in October of 2011 and the 5.3-inch smartphone would create a new category of smartphones called phablets.  The company was looking to offer customers the best features of a smartphone and tablet in one converged device. Customers liked the idea and Samsung followed up with the Note 2 the following year. The 5.5-inch smartphone has been another hit for the company and now other smartphone makers are releasing their own phablets to compete.

The Galaxy Note 3 will have to impress as Sony, HTC, and LG all have it in their sights. Sony just recently launched its Note 3 competitor in the form of Xperia Z Ultra. Sony's phablet packs a 6.44-inch display and includes stylus support like Samsung's Galaxy Note series. Sony, however, decided not to include a stylus because the Z Ultra uses a special type of coating on its scratch-resistant display that allows you to use standard pens and pencils on it. Sony is also using a new display technology with its phablet called Triluminous, a technology the company uses in some of its TVs. The new display claims to offer truer colors and more textures compared to standard LED backlighting. Samsung is also now rumored to be using a new display technology in the Galaxy Note 3.

A new report claims that the company will use a 5.99-inch Super AMOLED flexible display on the smartphone. Samsung will reportedly begin full-scale production of the displays beginning in August and will launch the Galaxy Note 3 in September. The report goes on to say that Samsung has begun to feel pressure from its competitors, especially LG. LG has already confirmed that it is working on a smartphone with a flexible OLED display and plans to release the device in Q4 2013. The report claims that Samsung wants to show the world that it is still a very innovative company and it believes that the perfect way to do so is to be the first smartphone maker to offer this new technology to consumers.

However, we'll have to file this in the rumor category for now, since Galaxy Note 3 rumors are only expected to increase as we get closer to the expected September launch.
