Rogers to exclusively offer Moto X smartphone in August

Rumors pertaining to the impending Motorola smartphone, dubbed the Moto X, have been swirling online for some time now and the latest buzz is that Canadian carrier Rogers will exclusively offer the device in the country.

The hotly-anticipated Moto X is expected to launch in August as revealed by a leaked internal memo, which MobileSyrup managed to lay its hands on. The LTE-enabled smartphone will apparently run on Rogers LTE Max network and will come pre-loaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

"According to an internal we received shows that Rogers will have an exclusive on the Moto X in Canada, with a launch date scheduled for this August. This will run Android OS 4.2 Jelly Bean and "heavily leverages Google acquisition of Motorola." The Moto X will be an LTE-enabled device running on Rogers LTE Max network," reports MobileSyrup.

Moreover, per PhoneArena's source "those buying the phone over the Motorola website will be able to select the color of the back plate along with the trim."

Additionally, an ABC News report discloses that those purchasing the Moto X smartphone online would have the option to have the rear of the device engraved, as well customize the handset with different colors.

"Buyers will be able to select from a palette of different colors. One color can be used for the back case and another can be selected for the trim of the phone. Users will also be able to engrave a name or message on the back cover as well as upload a personal photo through the site to be used as the wallpaper on the phone's screen, according to people familiar with the rollout," notes ABC News.

Previously, Motorola's CEO Dennis Woodside has let on that the upcoming smartphone will launch this summer and is "designed by you." This indirectly reaffirms the ABCNews report, as well as previous rumors of the Moto X having more than 20 color options.

Currently, there's no information available on the pricing of the 4.7-inch Moto X on Rogers. The smartphone is speculated to tout a powerful 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The device will apparently feature a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing one. Woodside has also hinted that the smartphone could come with a feature that would know when a user is about to take a picture and automatically opens up the camera app.

Come August, we'll know if Rogers indeed offers the Moto X exclusively in Canada.
