Variety reported that both Spotify's app and website users complained that they encountered technical difficulties on Tuesday.

Fortunately, within an hour and a half, the service appeared to be back to normal.

For background information, the monitoring site DownDetector reported through Variety that around 1:10 p.m. ET, user complaints regarding Spotify began to rise. The reported concerns in the United States were largely from New York and Los Angeles.

However, the reason behind this outage is still unknown.

To provide further details, a notification informing users that their username and password were wrong was one of the issues they experienced.

Aside from this issue, customers also stated that they received the following notification: "We're all mixed up. Refresh this page or try again later. It may take some time to get things up again."

Moreover, users on Spotify's mobile app received a notice that said, "You've been logged out. Log back in to start listening."

Apart from Spotify, Discord also reported the same issue.

The Verge stated that Discord's status page noted, "Work has begun on restoring service." The said service has now been restored as of 4:01 p.m. ET, tying the problems to a glitch with a malfunctioning Google Cloud component that they had to promptly resolve.

How To Detect Next Spotify Down Issue

Since server down issues are inevitable, there is an online tool, known as DownDetector, that people can use to know if an unwanted outage occurred.

According to its website, DownDetector explained that it: "collects status reports from a series of sources, including Twitter and reports submitted on our websites and mobile apps. Our system validates and analyzes these reports in real-time, allowing us to automatically detect outages and service disruptions in their very early stages."

Moreover, this online tool also based their report on a single individual announcing that there is a widespread outage in a specific area. They also noted that they are generating a baseline of typical problem reports for each company that they monitor to ensure that outages are accurately reflected.

DownDetector only declares an outage when the number of complaints is much higher than the baseline since it verifies that difficulties are impacting a big number of people.

The following steps will be able to help users detect if an outage has occurred.

1. Search "DownDetector" on website or head to this link.

2. In the DownDetector website, type the name of the app on the search bar.

3. Once the app was typed, users will be able to know if an outage happen.

To emphasize, the online tool contains a 24-hour outage report chart. Furthermore, this graph compares the number of issue reports filed in the last 24 hours to the average volume of reports by time of day.
