Due to a lot of events that have been happening in the past few years which have been marked by the rapid acceleration in digital transformation among various businesses and organizations. Some experts foresee evolving cyber security challenges Which will make many companies implement innovative measures to protect themselves from dangerous cyber security attacks.

With Cyber security remaining a top priority among various businesses, cybersecurity experts also laid down the biggest cyber challenges companies and any other organizations are set to face. Here are some of them:

1. The evolution of ransomware attacks

Experts in Cyber security predicted that ransomware will continue to evolve and become widespread this year. Also added is that modern ransomware will become increasingly targeted and those ransomware operators will use more complicated extortion tactics such as extracting data to make use as a weapon.

Attack vectors commonly used, such as VPNs and exposed RDP ports, are still in play, but the cloud was predicted to become a major target as more companies migrate their Data. These clouds and center workloads will be the major playground for ransomware actors due to an increased attack from environments. It will therefore not be surprising to see the number of cyber criminals and hence the number of attacks, grow. So the major challenge here is to make sure that vulnerabilities can be identified as quickly as possible and find ways to correct them to have a much stricter security management.

2. Supply Chain attack

Some major supply chain attacks in 2021 include Solar winds and Colonial pipelines. This new form of a criminal act will require the efforts of the whole state to face it. The major challenge here will be to ensure that good security hygiene is in place by being more vigilant about the security of chosen partners. Due to the impact on various companies, it was apparent that supply chain attacks can be financially rewarding which could lead to the continued commoditization of the techniques, tactics, and procedures used to conduct such attacks. All these only fuel the fire, giving threat actors enough motivation to exploit the software supply chain in 2022.

3. New risk brought about by 5G

With the increasing rate of businesses looking to invest in 5G technology to enhance connectivity capabilities. It became apparent that the adoption of 5G will enable companies to create new value from existing core network assets; hence, putting their businesses on the digital transformation roadmap. 5G technology will increase the speed and responsiveness of wireless connections. However, these new technologies come with new risks to address; hence professionals need to look out for potential threats against these evolved networks.

Due to the accelerating growth of the internet of things, threat actors can take advantage of vulnerable connections and tend to compromise smart devices to infiltrate network infrastructure. Hence companies and organizations need to ensure they are protected from all associated 5G risks, otherwise, they will have to face losing out on the benefits of a connected future.

4. Cryptocurrency Attacks

The world of Cryptocurrency is growing rapidly and attracting more interest than ever hence it is one of the major cyber security challenges of 2022, and these digital wallets will continue to be a favorite. Because crypto transactions are digital, it is only natural that cyber measures need to be taken to protect against instances of security breaches and other potential theft. A malicious ad campaign was once launched aiming at attacking Japanese Cryptocurrency owners, in which the Major aim was to get the credentials to access digital wallets. For example, in July 2021, there were 170 fake cryptocurrency mining apps for Android devices. This attack led to the loss of $350,000, affecting 93,000 victims. This evolution in network capacity will then increase digital usage, which in the long run will lead to more vulnerabilities and hence more dangerous.

The cyberworld will always remain a highly strategic place where the states will use all the weapons to advance their pawns and therefore, detection, protection, and anticipation will be the order of the year. Attackers will not weaken on the contrary, and hence the race against time will continue to take place. So it is therefore important to take note of all these challenges that should be expected this year and the various ways in which they can be tackled. One of the strategic moves you can make if you really want to ascertain the security of yourself or your company is to go for a career in cyber security. Doing this will help you have knowledge of cyber attacks and how you can fix them yourself without the need to seek help from anyone.
