Windows 11 to get a Pre-Installed Video App Called Clipchamp — Will It Be for Free?

The successor to Windows Movie Maker is on the way.

A recent report from BGR mentioned that Microsoft announced that Windows 11 would come with a pre-installed video editing app called Clipchamp. This announcement means that computers with Windows 11 or those that were upgraded to Windows 11 will automatically have this app installed.

Despite being pre-installed, interested users would still have to pay for the app to use it.

Clipchamp history and details

The video editing app was once a browser-based video editing tool before Microsoft acquired it in 2021, per The Verge. It previously allowed you to create and edit videos using the full power of your GPU to render the final result.

The Clipchamp that comes with Windows 11 was found to be simple to use and has numerous features similar to those already offered by more professional apps, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. The app has trimming, splitting, transitions, animated text, and a timeline UI that allows a user to edit the exact second they need, per Slash Gear

Windows also added a text-to-speech generator for voiceovers to Chipchamp through Azure, a cloud computing service from Microsoft. It also has other unique features that are connected to Microsoft's other platforms. Aside from the previously discussed text-to-speech generator, Clip champ also has Microsoft OneDrive integration for cloud storage and a library of royalty-free stock videos, audio, and messages.

Clipchamp's Pricing and How to Get It

Unfortunately, unlike its predecessor, Clipchamp's advanced features are not for free. Interested users will have to pay Microsoft a 39-dollar monthly subscription fee that covers unlimited cloud storage, access to the stock content,1080p exports and Brand Kit , per Clipchamp's pricing page.

Users who opt not to pay for the advanced features will only have the application's basic features and are limited to 480p exports. Meanwhile, users who would like to export their content in 720p and have access to unlimited cloud storage and audio stock will have to pay a nine-dollar monthly subscription fee. Those who want to export their videos at 1080p and have unlimited cloud storage, audio stock and Brand kit will have to pay 19 dollars per month.

Clipchamp is available to computers that use Windows 11 as their operating system. Should you still not have Clipchamp in your start menu, update Windows 11 to its latest Insider Preview build, Build 22572, per Microsoft's announcement.

Additional Content

Microsoft's latest Windows 11 update also adds Microsoft Family, a family safety feature that allows parents to set parental controls to filter inappropriate apps and games on their kids' computers. The feature will also let parents set Microsoft Edge to browse kid-friendly websites only.

The company will also roll out an update to Windows 11's Search that will highlight "interesting moments in time."

The feature, dubbed "Search highlights," will allow Windows 11's Search to display what's trending online, in the world, and your organization. It will update itself periodically with content that will help you "discover more, be connected, and stay productive."

Search highlights will arrive on Windows 11 computers starting early next week.
