Kitchen appliances are huge lifesavers for anyone who cooks, regardless if the person knows how to cook or not. They simply make life so convenient and the whole process of cooking and eating so much faster.

However, convenient as they may be to use, appliances have their corresponding dos and don'ts when you use them. Take the microwave oven, for example.

Have you every found yourself second guessing what can be heated up inside the microwave and what will probably start a fire? Here are some of the things you should never ever put inside a microwave to heat:

Aluminum Foil

Yes, we understand that food, particularly, takeout may come in aluminum foil packaging. We also understand that it just sounds so convenient and easy to toss the aluminum foil-wrapped food into the microwave and start heating it up.

What everyone should understand and never ever forget, as an article by HuffPost points out, that aluminum foil is metal and metal and microwaves do not go hand in hand... unless you want to start a fire.

Eggs

One too many people on the internet have tried to boil an egg inside a microwave oven. Is that a good idea? Not so much, to be honest.

Not only can it be such a mess to heat up eggs in the microwave oven, it can be pretty dangerous as well. As an article by the Food Network points out, "The rapid heating process can create a lot of steam inside the egg, which can cause it to explode into an eggy mess."

Fruits

Fruits seem like they are harmless enough that it should not cause any problems if you heat them up in the microwave oven. However, according to the article by HuffPost, that is actually not the case.

In fact, the article explains that heating grapes up in the microwave will cause them to explode. Also, unless raisins that are literally smoking are your idea of a delicious snack, you should not head them up in the microwave either.

Nothing

If you think that putting nothing inside the microwave and then turning it on will not do any harm, think again.

According to HuffPost, "Since there is nothing to absorb the microwaves, like food, the magnetron — the thing that makes the microwave function — ends up absorbing the microwaves and essentially self destructs."

Travel Mugs

Travel mugs can be safe to heat up in the microwave but that will depend on what they are made of. If your travel mug is made from plastic, check first if it is microwave safe.

If it is made from stainless steel, do remember that it is still metal and it is never wise to heat up metal in a microwave oven.

Uncovered Pasta Sauces

There is nothing wrong with heating up pasta sauces in the microwave, provided that it is covered.

Uncovered pasta sauces, when heated, will just splatter and spit all over the inside of your microwave, creating a huge mess you would not want to clear.
