Netflix Buys Boss Fight Entertainment as It Expands Gaming Business

Netflix is continuing to expand into the gaming scene with its recent acquisition of powerhouse Boss Fight Entertainment. The streaming service is now joined by one of the best developers in the business and the one that brought to life household video game titles like Age of Empires, Halo Wars, and Starwars: The Old Republic.

Netflix Looking To Put Its Mark in the Gaming Scene

The exciting move takes Netflix a step closer in its goal to seriously move into the games industry. Before buying Boss Fight Entertainment, the streaming giant already acquired two game studios, Oxenfree developer Night School and Next Games.

Netflix is fairly new to the video game industry, having just released its batch of mobile games four months ago. Its aggressive approach to making moves left and right may place them in the right direction.

"Since we launched mobile games to our members around the world just four months ago, we've been expanding our games catalog bit by bit as we build out our in-house creative development team," said Amir Rahimi, Netflix's VP of Game Studios.

Netflix's video game aspirations may have been confusing at first, but the brains of the company made sense of it last year when they told investors about their plan.

It turns out that Netflix views video games as competition. And rather than fighting and literally "competing" with the genre, the streaming service decided to embrace it. Having a new medium for users to tinker with also allows Netflix to learn about its audience.

Even though there are some doubters to the "Netflix gaming" idea, the streaming giant refuses to pull its punches as can be seen by the snagging of Boss Fight Entertainment.

Netflix's acquisition is not just a one-way transaction, the Texas-based game studio Boss Fight Entertainment also gets what it wants.

Known for gameplay-rich games like Age of Empires and Starwars: The Old Republic, Boss Fight Entertainment's simple mission is to provide its gamers with "simple, beautiful, and fun game experiences." The game studio is elated with the Netflix deal as the streaming service gives it freedom to do what it loves.

"Netflix's commitment to offer ad-free games as part of members' subscriptions enables game developers like us to focus on creating delightful game play without worrying about monetization. We couldn't be more excited to join Netflix at this early stage as we continue doing what we love to do while helping to shape the future of games on Netflix together," said the excited founders of Bosst Fight Entertainment.

Fans of both Netflix and video games will look forward to the high-quality but ad-free games whipped up by the newest tandem in the entertainment scene. And it looks like that Netflix is not done with its hoarding of some top video game developers in the world. Expect more Netflix acquisitions in the coming months.
