Swarms of Ditto Will Invade Pokémon Go for April Fools’ Day

Swarms of Ditto will invade Pokémon Go on April Fools' Day.

According to Niantic's blog post, Pokémon Go will be filled with Ditto for its April Fools' Day event. The shapeshifting Pokémon will also pose as other Pokémon Go on the same day from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Pokémon Go players will only have until April 1 at 11:59 p.m. to catch and collect these special Pokémon.

Pokémon Go April Fools' Day Event Details

Niantic mentioned in its blog post that swarms of Ditto would appear in the wild during the one-day event, which appears to be changing into different Pokémon. Although these Ditto have a chance of being a Shiny One, Niantic didn't disclose the odds of a successfully caught Ditto becoming a Shiny variant.

Additionally, players who log into the game from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during April Fools' Day will find that some Pokémon are appearing more frequently in the wild. These Pokémon can either be a real one or a Ditto in disguise.

The Pokémon that would appear more frequently during the one-day event are Ekans, Gastly, Natu, Surskit, Finneon, Dwebble, and Swirlix. Players who can catch an Ekans, Gastly, Natu, and Dwebble in the wild will find that they either caught a regular variant, a Shiny variant, a Ditto, or a Shiny Ditto.

Niantic also did not mention the chances of a player catching a Shiny Pokémon, a Ditto, or a Shiny Ditto in the blog post.

Players will also get to acquire event-themed stickers during Pokémon Go's April Fools' Day event by spinning PokeStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop.

CNET added that the game would have new Field and Special Research tasks during the event, which, if completed, will grant players various rewards, such as chances to catch Ditto.

To Catch a Ditto

Esports Asia said in its article that catching a Ditto in Pokémon Go is a mixture of patience and luck as they love to shapeshift into different Pokémon. Players will only notice the difference if the Pokémon they caught is a Ditto once they catch them.

To successfully catch a Ditto, Esports Asia advises players to use incense to increase the chances of encountering a Ditto, even during the April Fools' Day event. Using the game's Nearby Tracker is also a good idea to track down Ditto or any specific Pokémon.

Players should remember that a Shiny Pokémon will not transform into a Ditto. Also, a non-shiny Pokémon can turn into a normal Ditto or a Shiny one depending on chance, and a Shiny Pokémon that is included in Ditto's disguise pool cannot be a Ditto.

Other PokémonGo Events in April

Aside from the April Fools' Day event, Niantic also announced that Pokémon Go's second Community Day rerun event would take place on April 10, which would feature Mudkip, per a separate CNET report.

The game will also see the debut of Tapu Bulu, a Grass/Fairy-type Pokémon from the Alola region, on April 12 as part of the game's Spring event, which will be on until April 26, per Dot eSports.
