The Best April Fools’ Day 2022 Pranks on the Internet

Them trolls went at it again this April Fools' Day.

As the timeless tradition of dedicating one day to spread jokes and pranks draws to a close this year, many people, whether it be a game or product developer, a famous brand, or even a beverage company, gave their shot at giving everyone a good laugh.

Here are some of the best pranks the tech industry has to offer the public.

Among Us Horse Mode

People's favorite crewmates just got turned into horses... in space.

IGN reported that Innersloth released an April Fools' Day exclusive game mode called Horse Mode in its hit sneak-and-stab simulator, Among Us. The mode was initially a joke Innersloth tweeted on April 17, 2021, but it seems Innersloth wanted to take the joke to the next level.

In this mode, the crewmates (and impostors) will be depicted as horses, which would "neigh" when killed. Impostors also got a new kill animation to go with the theme. Also, hats and visors can only be worn when in Horse Mode, per Innersloth's announcement.

HyperX's TCH Grass Keycaps

HyperX recently tweeted that it would be "selling" a one-of-a-kind keyboard that would let its users stay at home and still be able to "touch grass."

The TCH Grass Keycaps is an RGB USB keyboard and mouse combo that is covered in the fabled "grass" users could touch anytime as they're "nailing clip highlights," as PC Gamer puts it. However, the keyboard seems to lack a Numpad, probably to make it more portable than those that have.

The keyboard and mouse combo is "available" to buy and can be bought by visiting the company's TCH Grass Keycaps page.

Newegg Studios' Dot PC

PC retailer Newegg Studios recently "announced" that it was able to develop a PC that's "big on power, but small in stature."

The Dot PC is "the world's first quantum computer" that is so small, that it has to be viewed with not one, but two microscopes, or one-millionth of a millimeter wide, two-millionths of a millimeter tall and is designed for people who want a full-blown PC gaming rig on the go. It can even run a AAA first-person shooter in 8K definition at 360,000 frames per second, Newegg joked on its Dot video.

Valheim's Deer Mode

If you ever wondered what it's like to live like a deer in Norse mythology, then you're in luck; Iron Gate Studio recently "revealed" that Valheim players can roleplay as deer in the game.

The game even allows players to do deer things like grazing (in two types!), Panik, and HONK. They can even ride boats and fly with a valkyrie as a deer. Another tweet from the game developer also added that players roleplaying as a deer can enjoy increased speed but have less stamina and the ability to swim indefinitely. However, deers can switch directions midrun while being unable to attack, interact with objects, use tools, and have to wear two pairs of pants instead of armor.

Unfortunately, the gameplay shown in the game developer's tweet is only an attempt at a prank, and as such, players are unable to play as deer even on April Fools' Day.

You Know The Rules And So Do I

Last and certainly not least is the one that may have started online pranking, the Rickroll.

A time-honored "tradition" since the early days of YouTube, rickrolling can be done by sending someone a hyperlink posing as an important link to view, cutting a video into a Rickroll, or even a QR code.

The song to the prank is known as "Never Gonna Give You Up" and was sung by Rick Astley in the 1980s. The prank is so popular that the views of its YouTube video hit an average of 2.3 million on April Fools' Day alone.

The YouTube video of the song also reached more than 1 billion views last year. As the memers say, "As long as the trolls don't stop trolling, the Rick will always come rolling."
