Startup Company ConceptPix Makes Horizontal Mouse — Is It Legit?

A well-designed ergonomic PC peripheral makes using it as natural as possible. That involves minimizing needless strain and pressure, having plenty of support, moving as little as possible, and, if you're at a desk, assisting in maintaining 90-degree angles in the arms and legs.

Vertical mice, for example, cause the palm of the hand to face more sideways, resulting in reduced forearm pronation and allowing the arm to be at a 90-degree angle with the rest of the arm.

But what about a mouse that is horizontal?

Horizontal Mouse Concept by ConceptPix

According to Geeky Gadgets, ConceptPix is a new ergonomic wireless mouse that is designed to provide a tiny input device with sensitive operation, preventing wrist aches and injuries when working at a computer.

The ConceptPix "horizontal mouse" rotates mechanically in the direction of the lever, and an extra joystick allows individual fingers to control the most.

What Are the Disclaimers?

Scharon Harding of Ars Technica shared some disclaimers about the concept product.

First, Harding noted that crowdsourcing has given birth to less plausible products. On the plus side, the designers posted a video on Kickstarter displaying a supposedly working prototype. Regardless, anyone who has used a vertical mouse or is looking for a more comfortable or less painful alternative to regular mice will be interested in a horizontal mouse.

The horizontal mouse concept, according to ConceptPix, lowers the amount of squeezing to use the device. It also claims that using a mouse puts your hand in a better position.

One of its claimed advantages is that the mouse causes less strain on your wrist because it isn't supported as much by the wrist.

The mouse also prevents the fingers from getting overly twisted.

Horizontal Mouse's crowdfunding page makes the bold claim that it "helps avoid "carpal tunnel," but it does so without providing any research or certifications to back it up.

Harding also said that while its small size and weight should make it easier to move around than larger mice, the diminutive shape will almost certainly require some getting used to.

And lastly, the ConceptPix brand has no online presence, and its Kickstarter profile is private; the project developer is identified as being in Hong Kong, yet ConceptPix's bio states Miami Beach, Florida; and the crowdfunding target is an impossibly low $119.

But despite the drawbacks, Harding admitted that the Horizontal Mouse's design has several interesting concepts.

Other Details of the Horizontal Mouse

In addition to making the mouse easy to push around, Geeky Gadgets said that its lightweight and simple shape could make it portable. It has only two buttons, which may be sufficient for a portable mouse.

Plus, it has a wireless USB-A dongle and dongle storage, and ConceptPix plans on releasing the mouse with USB-C charging and an optical sensor supporting 800, 1,200, 1,600, and 2,000 CPI

If the ConceptPix crowdfunding campaign meets its pledge goal and the project moves forward smoothly, worldwide shipping is planned to begin in June. Early bird pledges for the innovative initiative are now available for as little as $29 (£39) on Kickstarter.
