Mario is the Best-Selling Videogame Character

Mario is the best-selling videogame character, with 657,460,000 units sold, as certified by VGChartz on Sept. 30, 2020.

Guinness World Records said that this is the total number of units added up from mainline Mario titles and spin-offs like Mario Kart and Mario Strikers.

Best-Selling Gaming Character Cross-Over

The Escapist reported that since its release in 2007, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has sold over 7.09 million Wii and 4.22 million DS units, making it the most popular game featuring characters who previously appeared in their respective games. Most Expensive Video Game Sold at an Online Auction

According to Guinness World Records, a rare 1985 Super Mario Bros game has set a new Guinness World Record for the most expensive video game sold at an online auction after being sold for $114,000 to an unnamed buyer. The video game is still in its original packaging.

This copy was part of one of the game's limited production runs. It was "packaged in boxes with a cardboard hangtab underneath the plastic," a sign that it was part of one of the first versions released when Nintendo began using shrink-wrap instead of stickers to secure its games.

Best-Selling Racing Game

Nintendo unveiled lifetime sales numbers for several Wii and DS games, including Mario Kart Wii, in May 2009. The game's sales of 15.4 million copies break the previous record of 14.89 million set by Sony's Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec. With 14.61 million units sold, Mario Kart DS is the best-selling handheld racer, as per The Escapist.

Most Expensive Costume in Super Mario Odyssey

Guinness World Records said that the Skeleton suit was the most costly costume in Nintendo's cap-happy platformer Super Mario Odyssey for Switch as of Jan. 17, 2018. The costume can be purchased for 9,999 gold coins (in-game currency), which is also the maximum amount of gold coins Mario may hold at once. The suits that come closest to this price are 2,000 gold coins and require various amounts of Power Moons to unlock.
