‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ Remake is Given to a Studio

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is going home to its original developer.

The official Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time franchise Twitter account recently announced that the remake of the game has moved from the hands of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montréal, the studio that created the original game.

"The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montréal, the very birth place of the epic Sands of Time trilogy," says Ubisoft's announcement on Twitter.

Change in Studio Aims After Delivering Best Experience to Fans

According to Ubisoft their decision is an important step as the team, building on the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic when it's ready.

Ubisoft expressed its gratitude to the game's fans and assured them that updates would be available in the future.

There is no statement yet from Ubisoft as to whether or not the remake is being rebooted or if Ubisoft Montreal will continue working on what was already done by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai .

Ubisoft Montréal has been responsible for several successful Ubisoft titles, including the first two Watch Dogs games, most of the Assassin's Creed series, a number of titles in the Far Cry series, and the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

'Prince of Persia: Sands of Time' Release Date Pushed Back Due to Pandemic

Ubisoft pushed back the release date of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time by a couple of months due to pandemic-related issues. Later on, the studio decided to delay the game's release indefinitely.

During the September 2020 Ubisoft Forward event, the studio announced that the Prince of Persia remake's initial January 2021 launch date was delayed to March 2021.

Ubisoft announced that the game had been delayed to an unspecified date in the future, two months later, for the visuals, combat, and a new targeting system to be further refined for its PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S launch, according to Game Spot.

As per The Verge report, Ubisoft's last update about the game came in October 2021, reassuring fans that developers were still working on the game.

There is no statement yet as to how a shift in development at this point in production will impact the game or if there will be further delays. However, the development team has promised to issue an update in the future.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a 2003 action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft. The Sands of Time is a reboot of the Prince of Persia series, created by Jordan Mechner, who served as a creative consultant, designer, and scenario writer for The Sands of Time.
