Did You Know That Some Disneyland Opening Day Rides are Actually Still There?

Disneyland, as they say is, the happiest place on Earth ever since the first park opened in Anaheim, California on July 18, 1955.

It has been 67 years since Disneyland came to be and it goes without saying that many changes have been made through the decades. But did you know that there are still some opening day rides that are still operational until now in Disneyland?

Here are some of them:

King Arthur Carrousel

Believe it or not, "carrousel" is not a typographical error. The name of the ride is really spelled that way.

According to an article by Paste Magazine, this ride has been unique until the 2000s due to its "jumpers." You might recognize them as the horses on the ride that go up and down. King Arthur Carrousel did not have stationary vehicles at first, but that changed in 2003 when a chariot was installed.

The ride has been restored through the years, but has largely retained the same look and feel it has had since 1955.

You really cannot go to Disneyland and not notice the spinning tea cups.

Mad Tea Party, a ride inspired by "Alice in Wonderland," is one of the rides that has been there since opening day. According to an article by Travel + Leisure, many of the Disney parks around the world have their version of this ride.

In fact, it is known as Alice's Tea Party at Tokyo Disneyland and Mad Hatter's Tea Cups at Disneyland Paris. At Disneyland Hong Kong, it is known there as Mad Hatter Tea Cups. All versions of the ride are located in Fantasyland of its respective Disney park.

Peter Pan's Flight

Peter Pan's Flight has always been a ride that thrilled children given its ride system, which has also set it apart from other rides in Fantasyland, according to Paste Magazine.

The rail of this ride is actually suspended to give guests the feeling that they are indeed flying over the scenes below them. Both Paste Magazine and Travel + Leisure point out that Peter Pan's Flight is one of the most popular Disneyland rides in their respective articles.

It has been refurbished through the years, but it Travel + Leisure says it is still "very similar" to the ride that delighted guests on opening day.

Snow White's Enchanted Wish

Previously known as Snow White's Scary Adventures, Snow White's Enchanted Wish has gone through some changes through the years especially as Disney made it a goal to make the ride less scary for children.

At Disneyland, the ride was originally known Snow White and Her Adventures before its name was chanced to Snow White's Scary Adventures. The name of the ride was changed again to its current name in 2020. At Tokyo Disneyland, the ride is known as Snow White's Adventures.

Travel + Leisure points out that this ride is currently the only princess-themed ride in Disneyland. However, that will change as Splash Mountain is due to be re-themed to feature "Princess and the Frog."
