U.S. Cellular now taking pre-orders for the Moto X

Motorola finally announced the much-awaited Moto X smartphone and now U.S. Cellular has begun taking pre-orders for the handset.

The Moto X is available for pre-order at the carrier's website and will set existing customers back by $199.99 on a two-year contract. U.S. Cellular is offering the Moto X in two hues: Woven White and Woven Black.

"We're excited to offer our customers this amazing Motorola device that has features and tools to help you simplify and enhance your life," said Joe Settimi, VP of products, pricing and innovation for U.S. Cellular. "Moto X lets you experience key features like Quick Capture Camera. With a twist of a wrist it gives you the ability to capture meaningful moments instantly with friends and family."

Those who are looking to switch to U.S. Cellular, now is a good time to do so as the carrier is offering a $75 "Switcher Bonus" to first-time buyers, which reduces the price of the handset to just $124.99. Alternately, those who want to purchase the 16GB model of the Moto X smartphone outright will need to shell out $699.99.

Currently, Motorola's online store has only the 16GB model of the smartphone up for pre-order, while the 32GB variant is notably missing.

Motorola also has a special offer in place to entice customers who pre-order its new flagship smartphone. Those who pre-order the Moto X online will receive the Motorola Boom Bluetooth headset, which is normally valued at $59.99, for free. This offer, however, will only be available "while supplies last."

The Moto X smartphone is slated to make its way to four major U.S. carriers - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and U.S. Cellular. However, AT&T will be the first to access the Moto Maker customization option for the handset.

The Moto X sports a 4.7-inch AMOLED HD display and houses a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Processor, which is clocked at 1.7GHz. The smartphone will be available in both 16GB and 32GB storage options and has 2GB of RAM. The device also boasts 10-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary one. The NFC-enabled Moto X packs a 2,200 mAh battery and will come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

You can now pre-order the 16GB variant of the Moto X in either Woven White or Woven Black online. The smartphone is expected to ship by the end of August.
