Razer Now Has the World’s First Gaming Mice With ECOLOGO Mark — Which Mice Are They?

Razer has proven that gaming mice are not just a gamer's must-have tool but also a sustainable and environmentally safe way of enjoying video games.

The award-winning lifestyle brand for gamers recently announced that two of its best-selling mice had received the ECOLOGO Mark, which signifies they are sustainable products, according to the company's announcement.

The company announced the mice's certification in celebration of World Environment Day.

Razer mentioned that two of its best-selling mice, the Razer Basilisk V3 and the Deathadder Essential, have passed UL2710, the Outline of Investigation for Sustainability for Portable Electronics.

According to the UL Standard Sales Site, the outline is designed to "reduce adverse environmental and social impacts associated with the design, manufacture, use, and end of life management of portable electronic products." It is also made to establish a set of multi-sustainability performance criteria to address the product's life cycle impacts that may be used to evaluate the sustainability performance of portable electronic products.

The UL, or Underwriters Laboratories, is a global safety science leader that helps its customers achieve their safety, security, and sustainability goals, meet quality and performance expectations, manage risk and achieve regulatory compliance, per UL's About Us page.

Razer mentioned that it chose the Basilisk V3 and the Deathadder Essential due to them being its best-sellers and that they are fairly accessible mice designed to work with many gamers.

Now that the Razer Basilisk V3 and Deathadder Essential have the ECOLOGO mark, customers can now feel assured these mice were made with environmental sustainability concerns in mind, and that they will not be a cause of skin irritation, per PC Gamer.

Kenneth Ng, Razer's Sustainability Manager, is also of the same mind as PC Gamer, saying that the company's community of gamers can rest assured that their favorite mice have been "thoroughly vetted by a trusted scientific organization" that put the two mice through a comprehensive list of criteria to award them with the ECOLOGO Certification.

"What better way to celebrate World Envrionment Day than to share with our community that the very mice that help them win in games are also a win for the environment," Ng said.

The ECOLOGO Mark is recognized and displayed on Amazon's Online Store when an item certified by the UL with the mark appears on its online store.

Razer's ECOLOGO Mark Tests

Razer was able to acquire the certification for its two gaming mice by complying with the European Union's (EU) hazardous chemical restricted substance regulations and placing them under assessment for skin irritation and sensitization, which they passed.

Next, the UL evaluated Razer's process of repair and replacement management, which consists of ease of product disassembly by authorized service providers and how Razer handles components requiring waste treatment to service providers.

The global safety science leader also checked the mice's packaging to see if they are made of FSC certified material, which dictates that the packaging is free of heavy metals and chlorine and printed in sustainable soy-ink so they can be easily recycled.

Finally, the UL checked Razer's manufacturing facilities to ascertain if the mice were made in facilities that are committed to environmentally responsible management, as evidenced by certification to ISO 14001.
