Two Ghostbusters VR Games Will Haunt Two Separate VR Setups Soon — Here’s What You Need To Know

Ghosts will soon haunt two VR systems, and it's your job to bust them out of there alone or with a few friends.

Sony Pictures Virtual Reality recently announced that VR game developer nDreams would be releasing Ghostbusters VR to the PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2). It also revealed that another VR game developer, Hologate, is creating a location-based Ghostbusters VR game.

Sony announced both games as part of Ghostbusters Day celebrations, per IGN. However, the company did not mention a definite release date for both of them.

GhostBuster VR Details

Ghostbusters VR was previously announced to be coming to Meta's Quest 2 VR system back in April. However, Sony Pictures Virtual Reality mentioned on its Twitter account that the game would also be available for the PSVR2, Sony Interactive Entertainment's upcoming VR system for the PlayStation 5.

Not much is known about the game aside from that it is set in the city of San Francisco. However, the game's timeline is set during the modern-day, but "maybe slightly in the future, per IGN's coverage of the game.

Players would have an opportunity to run their own ghost-busting business there but will have to solve a "deep mystery" during an "extensive and engrossing campaign" across a new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe.

Sony Pictures VR mentioned that this game is not a direct follow-up to any of the Ghostbusters movies, including "Ghostbusters: Afterlife."

The game is also capable of being played alone or in a group of four, presumably through online co-op.

From what we can see with Ghostbusters VR's gameplay trailer, it may feel similar to asymmetrical survival horror games Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight, wherein players will have to hunt down and bust a ghost, which may be controlled by the game's AI.

Ghostbusters VR is the latest game announced for the upcoming PSVR2, which means it'll join other VR games like Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil: Village VR, Among Us VR, and No Man's Sky in its wait for the system to be released.

Sony Pictures VR did not disclose a definite release date for the game.

Ghostbusters VR Academy Details

Sony Pictures VR also mentioned that VR game developer HOLOGATE is developing a location-based VR game called Ghostbusters VR Academy.

Ghostbusters VR Academy is reportedly split into two different games, per Comicbook Gaming. The first, designed for HOLOGATE's BLITZ platform, puts players inside of an ECTO vehicle as they race against others.

The second game, made for HOLOGATE's ARENA, will allow players to use their proton packs to bust ghosts real good as part of a larger team.

Sony Pictures SVP of VR Jack Zim mentioned that the game will give players the chance to "train to be a real Ghostbuster in an amazing academy setting and race a new flying version of the ECTO using HOLOGATE's vehicle motion simulator."

The two games will be playable from all of HOLOGATE's 400 various locations worldwide by late 2022, just before the year ends.
