Capcom Releases New Resident Evil 4 Remake Information — Can Leon Move While Shooting?

Resident Evil 4 Remake (RE4R) promises to bring something new to the table while being faithful to its roots.

RE4R director Yasuhiro Anpo and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi revealed during Capcom's recent online event that the game will preserve the original 2005 game's identity while giving it "modern flourishes," per GameSpot.

The game was set for release on March 24, 2023, for the PlayStation5, Xbox Series X, and the PC.

Resident Evil 4 Remake New Details

Anpo and Hirabayashi explained during Capcom's latest online-only live stream event, Capcom Showcase, that the remake will be a "re-imagining " of the 2005 original game. They also mentioned that they want to preserve its identity in its remake while updating it with modern flourishes for everyone to enjoy once released.

"Similar to other titles in the series, we want to nail the feeling of loneliness and fear of not knowing what lies ahead, even more so in the original," Hirabayashi said.

The event then featured limited gameplay footage showing that the game still uses a third-person camera mechanic, with both RE4R developers noting that it will feel familiar to anyone who played the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

The game also features a closer look at Leon, who looks closer to how he looks during the events of Resident Evil 2 Remake than his look in the original Resident Evil 4 game.

RE4R takes place six years after the events of the Raccoon City destruction incident, which were covered during the previous two Resident Evil games.

The ganados will also make a return to the game, with the first ganado in the game shot with a look similar to the first zombie players saw during the first Resident Evil game.

Capcom also redesigned the ganados to "truly bring out the concept of "terror of people controlled by madness."

The gameplay footage did not feature any gunplay, and as such, it is still unknown if melee moves, which are prominently featured in the original RE4, will also make a return. However, the gameplay footage showed Leon could move while aiming and presumably firing his weapon.

This part of the gameplay footage showed that the game would have the same combat features as the previous two resident evil remakes. IGN mentioned that the feature would "fundamentally change" RE4, which was famous for making the player stand their ground against hordes of ganado, of which there will be plenty, as Hirabayashi notes dueing the event.

Not much else was releaved during the gaming's time in Capcom showcase, but it can be speculated that Capcom will release more details about the game as March 24 gets closer.

How Resident Evil 4 Remake Came To Be

RE4R was hinted to be in development as part of a Capcom leak in late 2020, when a data breach discovered references to the game among other future Capcom projects.

It then became the topic of rumors, with it being the subject of a "partial reboot" within Capcom due to internal disagreements over its direction.
