Disney+ Will Be Expanding in More Than 60 Countries, Including West Asia, Africa, and Europe

Disney+ announced its expansion to a much larger audience to compete against Netflix. The streaming platform of Disney was launched back in November 2019.

Since its debut in November 2019, in comparison to its primary market competitor, Netflix, Disney+ has only recently become accessible in a limited number of countries. Nevertheless, this is most likely going to change in the near future as the streaming service is widening its expansion into the market.

As a result of Disney's expansion into 42 new countries, it will become accessible to an audience that is significantly larger than before.

Beginning in May of 2022, Disney+ will roll out in a total of 42 new nations and 11 new territories across the continents of Africa, Europe, and West Asia. Since it first went on the market, the streaming service has been made available in a limited number of countries; this represents a significant expansion of its reach.

Disney+ Expansion

The Walt Disney Company's streaming video service Disney+ went live on Tuesday in Greece, Turkey, and several countries in Central and Eastern Europe, such as Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Croatia. According to Variety, this week, 42 new countries and 11 new territories will be able to get it.

Disney+ is an online streaming service that features movies and television shows produced by National Geographic, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, and Pixar.

As reported by MUO, it also includes the new general entertainment content brand known as Star, which is sold in certain international markets. Through this brand, it distributes content produced by Searchlight Pictures, FX, 20th Century Studios, and Disney Television Studios.

Disney+ is now available in a number of countries outside of Europe, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, as well as throughout Latin America. The service is the most popular option available in India and goes by the name Disney+ Hotstar.

In contrast to the significantly different business model it employs in more developed markets, the Disney+ Hotstar brand is also used in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. These three countries are all located in Southeast Asia.

As evidenced by the streamer's easily surpassing growth projections made by Wall Street for the March 2022 quarter, Disney+ was able to maintain its forward momentum.

According to a different report by Variety, the number of paid subscribers to Disney's flagship streaming service increased by 33 percent year over year to 137.7 million after the service added 7.9 million new subscribers during the first three months of 2022. According to FactSet, analysts had an average expectation that Disney+ would gain 5.2 million new subscribers.

For the quarter, the company reported earnings of 26 cents per share and revenue of $19.25 billion, which was up 23 percent from the previous year.
