Lightyear DLC Can be Purchase in Minecraft Marketplace: Here's What You Have to Know

Buzz Lightyear has landed on Minecraft's blocky universe.

Minecraft developer Mojang Studios recently announced that the Lightyear DLC for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is now available to download on the Minecraft Marketplace on the same day Disney released the movie "Lightyear" on the big screen.

The Lightyear DLC for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for the Nintendo Switch is still in the works and will be released at a later date.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Lightyear DLC Details

The Lightyear DLC for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition will let players play as Buzz lightyear and go through his origin story, helping him navigate a planet after his unfortunate crash landing on it. During his time there, players can help Buzz get through five missions that will put Buzz's years of academy training to the test.

The missions will put Buzz in one of the planet's many hostile jungles, swamps, mines, and various alien settlements while fighting enemies and several bosses using Buzz's many gadgets.

The DLC is not on an "all work, no play" kind of vibe as players can have Buzz take to the skies using the various flyable spacecraft in the DLC in between missions or as a means of travel. However, during the flight, players will have to help Buzz navigate through many obstacles while flying to get to their next objective.

The Lightyear DLC also provides players with a free Lightyear-themed Character Creator item, which can be accessed in the game's Dressing Room. In-game screenshots provided by Mojang Studios show that the item in question could be a Space Ranger suit and uniform similar to what Buzz wears in the movie.

Lightyear DLC Availability And Requirements

The Lightyear DLC for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is now available to download on the Minecraft Marketplace on all platforms except for the Nintendo Switch. According to Mojang Studios, "a recent battle with Emperor Zurg" has caused a delay in the Nintendo Switch's version of the DLC. However, the developer promised that it would be made available soon.

However, Minecraft players who want to experience Buzz's origin story for themselves must first have the latest version of Minecraft Bedrock Edition and access to Minecraft Marketplace.

Disney's 'Lightyear' Movie Details

Disney's "Lightyear" movie is a sci-fi action-adventure film that tells the "definitive" origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the same character that inspired the Buzz Lightyear character in the "Toy Story" series, per Disney.

During the events of the film, Buzz crash lands and is marroned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. Buzz will then need to find a way back home while fighting the evil Emperor Zurg.

The movie is directed by Angus Macland and is produced by Galyn Susman. Chris Evans, known for his role as Steve Rogers and his superhero alias, Captain America, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has voiced Buzz in the movie.
