The classic game Jack and Daxter from the PS2 will soon be made available on PC.

The Naughty Dog duo's trilogy of Jak and Daxter misadventures has not been given an official PlayStation revival as of yet.

Until that day arrives, the original games in the series have been requested by numerous gamers excited to play and experience them again. However, an unofficial port made by these gaming enthusiasts will allow other gamers to try and play the game.

In the past few years, the gaming industry has started to witness a lovely phenomenon: fans of older console games are taking ancient code and remaking native PC versions of the classic games they have enjoyed.

The occurrence of these things has previously been noticed in several Nintendo games, but, beginning now, gamers will also encounter them in PlayStation games.

Jak and Daxter on PC

The game Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy will not have the official multi-platform release that some gamers are accustomed to. Again, the availability of the game is a recompilation of a collective prerogative from the game's fans. In 2001, Jak and Daxter were made available for the first time on the PlayStation 2, and they are currently available as a native application for the personal computer.

As described by GitHub, the goal of the project is to create a port of Jak 1 for the PC. GOAL is a specialized form of the Naughty Dog-created Lisp programming language that was used to create more than 98 percent of this game.

Their plan is to make their own GOAL compiler, recompile game code for x86-64, and decompile the original game code into human-readable GOAL code.

Furthermore, the contributors intend to produce a tool that will extract game assets into forms that can be readily seen or updated, as well as tools that will repack game assets into a format that our port uses.

A few of the goals include making an effort to replicate aspects of the game as close to the original as possible. For instance, the original GOAL compiler allowed for the live editing of code even as the game was being played; hence, they are implementing the same feature, despite the fact that it is not necessary for the simple process of porting the game.

Additionally, the contributors want to add support modifications. It aims to make edits in the code without causing the rest of the game to malfunction.

'Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy'

According to GameSpot, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is a classic example of the genre and explores the story of how the unlikely heroes got their start in the three-part game sequel. Jak 2 creates a tremendous amount of disruption by transporting players to a large metropolis. Jak 3 features larger-scale vehicular combat as well as expansive wasteland environments. In the end, this is a trilogy that ought to be experienced in its entirety.

According to Kotaku, the contributors who are working on the game stated that they added plenty of new options to the game settings so gamers can choose between a more modern experience and a more PS2-like experience.

They added, "There are also a bunch of extra goodies and added secrets to find out. We are aiming to keep the core gameplay (controls, physics, behaviors, etc.) identical, however, so if you find any issues or differences with this, then do not hesitate to tell us about it."

Lastly, they stated that all levels are fully playable and that players can complete the game with a 100% completion rate.
