Bungie Brings the Gjallarhorn Launcher to Life With Its NERF Version

If you ever wondered what it would be like to hold one of the best weapons in the Destiny series, you'll get to soon.

Game developer studio Bungie recently revealed a massive limited edition NERF version of the Gjallarhorn launcher, which will be available for pre-order soon.

The Gjallarhorn launcher is one of the most overpowered weapons ever used in the series, per the Destinypedia.

Gjallarhorn Launcher NERF Version Details

Bungie mentioned in its announcement that the NERF version of the Gjallarhorn launcher is four feet long at a 1:1 scale, meaning that the NERF version has the same dimensions as its in-game counterpart.

The Gjallarhorn launcher's initial design involved a lot of black and gold, but NERF Product Designer David Doern mentioned that the team handling the Gjallarhorn launcher wanted to be "a little true" to the launcher's in-game appearance as this will be the only time the launcher will be brought to the real world.

However, it won't be able to fire splitting homing rockets or rockets that split into multiple NERF darts. Bungie mentioned that you'll be loading a shell that contains three of NERF's Mega darts, which will be fired simultaneously.

NERF senior project engineer Justin Saccone mentioned that the simultaneous firing of the Mega darts gives a visual sense of the Wolfpack Rounds "swirling and flying through the air towards your target."

He also revealed that the launcher comes with three shells for a total of nine Mega darts.

Similar to the weapon's scaling, the NERF version of the Gjallarhorn launcher also handles and reloads like its in-game counterpart, according to Saccone. The NERF version's loading bay opens just like in the game and is reloaded similarly. Afterward, pulling it back will make the weapon ready to fire the three Mega darts contained in the shell.

"It's the first time at NERF that we've ever done an easily reloadable MEGA dart shell that fires multiple MEGA darts at once," Saccone said.

The Gjallarhorn launcher's packaging won't be easily tossed aside either. Jon NERF Senior Graphic Designer Jon Olson revealed that he wanted to give the Gjallarhorn launcher's packaging an "artifact vibe," which is a homage to the game's history and lore.

How To Get The Gjallarhorn Launcher

Interested Destiny 2 players can preorder the Gjallarhorn launcher on July 7 at 10 AM PT, and according to The Verge, players that do have the Gjallarhorn launcher in-game will be the first in line.

However, those who are looking to purchase the launcher will need to unlock its in-game counterpart during Destiny 2's Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack before July 7 at 9 AM PT.

Successfully doing so will allow you to join those in the "virtual waiting room" for your Gjallarhorn launcher purchase.

Should there be any left, the remaining Gjallarhorn launchers will be put up for sale starting July 21. However, the launcher's limited edition nature means that Bungie will continue to sell the remaining ones until supplies last.
