Ford Recalls Two of Its Models Because Their Windshields Could Detach

Ford is recalling all two of its popular models for immediate repairs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the automaker is recalling its 2022 model of the Bronco and Ranger SUVs due to improperly attached windshields, per the agency's bulletin.

2022 Ford Bronco and Ranger owners will be notified about the recall by mail beginning in mid-July, per CNET.

Ford 2022 Bronco And Ranger Recall Details

Ford mentioned in its bulletin it is recalling all of the 2022 Broncos and Rangers built between December 8, 2021, and April 12, 2022, meaning that 39,063 Broncos and 24,231 Rangers are expected to be recalled for immediate repairs.

Auto Blog stated in its report that Ford discovered the problem when an affected Ford driver brought their vehicle back to the automaker to complain and report about the issue.

The report then led to an investigation that eventually found the problem: a faulty windshield bonding issue.

The repairs Ford will be conducting involve the vehicles' windshields, which were not correctly attached to the vehicles' body structure.

Ford believes that the windshield could detach from the front of the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury to passengers should the car get involved in a crash.

2022 Ford Bronco and Ranger drivers can tell if their vehicle's windshield needs replacement if the vehicle shows show increased wind noise or water leaks.

Additionally, these vehicles were not produced in VIN order, and then the cause for the improper attachment of the vehicles' windshields remains unknown even during the writing of this article.

Consumer Reports mentioned in its article that Ford looked at many variables, such as ambient temperature, humidity, and oven settings during the bonding process of the windshield to the vehicles' vehicle body structure, the presence of contaminants, and clearcoat thickness. However, despite these variables, the automaker has yet to discover what causes the improper attachment.

Additionally, Ford mentioned that it is unaware of any crashes or injuries related to the windshield at this time.

Fortunately, Ford will remove the faulty windshield of any 2022 Ford Bronco and Ranger models brought back to them and reinstall a new one for free. However, due to the expected number of vehicles brought back to Ford for replacement, the automaker has not made clear when it could return the recalled vehicles to their owners.

How To Know If Your Ford Ranger Or Bronco Is Being Recalled

As previously mentioned, the affected vehicles could exhibit increased wind noise and water leaks to signify that the windshield is not properly attached. If you have this problem, have it replaced at your nearest Ford dealer.
