Amazon Prime Day 2022 is here, and those with Amazon Prime memberships can now enjoy all the deals and discounts they can get their hands on in celebration of Amazon's foundation.

Here are some things you may want to know bout the event and some things you may have missed before the bid day arrived.

Amazon Prime Day Started in 2015

Amazon's About Us Page mentioned that the two-day celebration has been going on since July 15, 2015, during the 20th anniversary of the company's foundation. Back then, only people in the US, the UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria were allowed to participate in the global shopping event.

Amazon Prime Day Was Only Celebrated In One Day Only

The celebration wasn't always a 48-hour long global shopping event. Back when it first started, the event was only celebrated on July 15, making it a one-day event. 

34.4 Million Items Were Sold During the First Amazon Prime Day

The first Amazon Prime Day sold more than 34.4 million items across the first Prime-eligible countries, with 398 items ordered per second.

This huge amount meant that Amazon overtook the number of items sold during the 2014 Black Friday Sale.

A Kitchen Appliance Was Once The Most Sold Item During Amazon Prime Day

CNBC mentioned that a kitchen appliance, more specifically, the Instant Pot 7-in-1 programmable pressure cooker was among the most popular sales items in the US during the first Amazon prime Day.

In fact, Instant Pot sold 24,000 pressure cooker units in the US only during the global shopping event.

Amazon Prime Membership Was Only $99 Per Year In 2015

An Amazon Prime membership would cost you $139 thanks to various add-ons that became permanent as time went on. However, back in 2015, an Amazon Prime membership would only cost you $99 per year, making Amazon richer by around $40 million in 2015. 

Amazon Prime Day Became A Two-Day Event On 2019

Amazon eventually decided to make Amazon Prime Day into a two-day global shopping event in 2019 possibly due to public demand. After all, one day isn't normally enough to get all your online shopping done during a sale.

$139 sounds too expensive for a higher education student, so in the spirit of accessibility, Amazon is offering them a chance to get an Amazon Prime membership at only $69 per year, per its Amazon Prime Day 2022 announcement.

Small And Medium-Sized Businesses Hugely Benefitted On Amazon prime Day 2021

NBC News reported that third-party sellers have hugely benefited from Amazon Prime Day in 2021, as they nearly all of them are small and medium-sized businesses. 

It also helped that the COVID-19-induced lockdowns are still in effect during this time, forcing consumers to shop online for their wants and needs.
