James Webb Space Telescope's 'Webb's First Deep Field' Image Has Been Turned Into a Dress

How does wearing a piece of the universe sound to you?

On July 11, 2022, NASA's James Webb Space Telescope's (JWST) clearest and most detailed image of the distant universe ever taken was unveiled.

The image, known as Webb's First Deep Field, shows the oldest galaxies that have ever been observed. Now, this groundbreaking image can be worn as a fashion brand turned it into a dress, as per Space.com.

Svaha Combined Fashion and Science

Science married fashion in a project of fashion brand Svaha. The brand has launched a new JWST-themed collection, which include a dress, top and cardigan, according to WION News.

You can now wear a small speck of the universe in mesmerizing details with the cotton dress fully covered with NASA's image.

According to Svaha, the JWST dress became highly in demand by Svaha customers.

"As soon as NASA released the photo, our social media was flooded with requests from our customers to capture the image on a dress," Svaha founder and CEO Jaya Iyer said in a statement.

Iyer said that the image is simply beautiful that they feel they had to turn it into a dress. Thus, the brand came up with beautiful designs that people can wear.

According to NASA's Webb vs Hubble comparison page, the preceding pioneer of JWST, the Hubble Space Telescope, "had a more limited spectrum of infrared wavelengths," as per Space.com.

In December 2021, an instrument called the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) was launched on board the JWST.

With the infrared sensors on NIRCam, it allowed the telescope to see further into space than the instruments launched before.

It took a long time for the light that reached the telescope to go through the solar system. Thus, the pattern displayed on the dress is a representation of the universe when it was less than a billion years old.

How Much is the JWST Dress?

The popular JWST Webb's First Deep Field image was digitally printed onto the dress' fabric to exactly duplicate the sharp details and true proportions.

The fabric is 95% cotton and 5% lycra. The dress has short sleeves and a knee-length, flared skirt. For practicality, it has pockets sewn into the waist.

The JSWT image covers the whole dress. Mirrored near the waistline, the image of the universe is duplicated on both the top and skirt section.

According to Iyer, she originally established the Svaha brand to combine fashion and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). One of her aims in doing it is to remove the concept that people have to select between feminine clothing and science themes.

You can get each of the items of the Webb's First Deep Field clothing collection in sizes from XS to 5XL. You can pre-order it on the Svaha USA website.

The dress sells at $79.99. The top and cardigan are cheaper, which are available for $44.99 each. The dress, top, and cardigan will be shipped to customers September 2022 ends.
