Two years after Apple made an announcement that it will move from Intel to Apple Silicon for Mac, the company has finally created a "native version of Microsoft Teams" for Macs having M1 or M2 chips, as per The Verge.
A native Apple Silicon version of Microsoft Teams was developed by the company. Those who own Macs with the latest M1 or M2 chips should observe the performance benefits.
However, even if you have Microsoft Teams running on an Apple Silicon Mac, don't expect this update to arrive anytime soon as it is going to roll out over the coming months.

New Microsoft Teams App Will Give Significant Boost in Performance
Microsoft made the announcement of the upcoming rollout in a blog post, stating that it is "committed to innovation and committed to the Mac."
Anupam Pattnaik, a member of the Microsoft Teams product marketing team, also said in a blog post that it would mean a significant boost in performance for Mac users.
It would mean efficient use of device resources and "an optimized Teams experience" even during instances when users are using "multiple high-resolution monitors" during calls or meetings.
The current version of Microsoft Teams has been working as a regular app. Apple's Rosetta 2 emulation is being utilized by Microsoft Teams. There has been a constant request for the native support for Teams on Apple Silicon among users.
There will be an automatic upgrade with the new app for all Mac users of Teams. However, as the rollout will happen over months, users will still have to wait to use it.
Pattnaik explained that the generally available (GA) version of the native Teams app on Mac with Apple silicon will be made available to customers "in increments" over the coming months.
But for those who don't want to wait for the update to be available to their Macs, they can make use of the beta that has been available for use for over a few months now.

New Version of Microsoft Teams Will be Universal Binary Once Fully Available
The beta testing for a version of Teams optimized for Apple Silicon was started by Microsoft back in April.
The Macs, which are powered by Apple Silicon can run three various types of applications, as per 9to5Mac. First is the iPhone and iPad apps on the Mac through the Mac App Store.
Another one is the apps that run through Rosetta 2 translation. This lets users run apps made for Intel Macs on Apple Silicon. According to Apple, sometimes apps perform better in Rosetta with M1 than in Intel.
Lastly, universal apps which are built for Apple Silicon and Intel processors. These are downloadable from the Mac App Store or from the web.
Once the new Microsoft Teams is fully available, it will be a "universal" binary. This only means that the same version can "run natively on Apple Silicon-powered Macs as well as Intel machines," as per 9to5Mac.
Microsoft made the native version of Microsoft Teams for Apple Silicon available for Mac almost two years after the company released native versions of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneNote for M1 Macs.
