Apple Arcade is dropping 15 games from the platform. Several games that has been previously included in the subscription service have been removed.

Games That Are Leaving Apple Arcade

Apple started notifying players in mid-July, giving them a little over two weeks' notice. However, the company gave a little more time for those currently playing the games.

According to a support document released by Apple, players who previously downloaded the games will be able to play it for an additional two weeks, as per ARS Technica.

Once the games are no longer playable, a pop up will appear explaining why the games are already unavailable.

Apple cited that Apple Arcade is dropping the games because the agreements between the developers and Apple have ended.

However, since the agreements don't stop developers from making those games available in other platforms, players can still access them as direct purchases or downloads through the App Store.

But this is already outside of the Arcade subscription now. The following is a full list of games that are leaving Apple Arcade:

  • Atone: Heart of the Elder Tree
  • BattleSky Brigade: Harpooner
  • Cardpocalypse
  • Dead End Job
  • Don't Bug Me!
  • Dread Nautical
  • EarthNight
  • Explottens
  • Lifeslide
  • Over the Alps
  • Projection: First Light
  • Spelldrifter
  • Spidersaurs
  • Towaga: Among Shadows
  • Various Daylife

Apple Arcade Started Notifying Users Last Month

The news about the 15 games leaving Apple Arcade first surfaced in July. As reported by 9to5Mac last month, a new section called "Leaving Arcade Soon" was added by Apple at the bottom of the Arcade tab in the App Store.

The section showed the list of games that will be removed from the streaming service. While back then Apple didn't specify when the titles will be removed, it is now clear that "soon" is the month of August.

As per 9to5Mac, this is not the first time Apple Arcade removed titles, but this is the first time that Apple posted a notification about it.

According to Apple, even if a game has been dropped from ‌Apple Arcade‌, the developer have the option to make their game available on the ‌App Store‌ for all users. However, certain differences might be observed from the ‌Apple Arcade version of it‌.

Users can keep on playing right where they stop in the ‌Apple Arcade‌ version of the game if a developer will allow them to load their saved progress in the ‌App Store‌ version, as per MacRumors. But if this is not the case, users must restart the game.

MacRumors said that when ‌‌Apple Arcade‌‌ was first released, a three-year deal was signed between Apple and the developers. Now, some of the contracts are expiring and not being renewed. This is the probable reason why the games have been removed.

For $5 monthly subscription, Apple Arcade is a pretty good deal. Users can access more than 200 games without ads or in-app purchases. Moreover, the catalog covers some big titles together with Apple Arcade versions of App Store classics.
