Urbanista Reveals Phoenix ANC Earbuds Charged by Solar Power — How Much Does It Cost?

Wireless earbuds are quite a novel device. Although the first truly wireless earbuds were invented in 2015, it was only until recently that they became known to the public eye.

Thanks to the attention being given to it, various developers are competing with each other to create the perfect earbuds, with one developer recently unveiling something unique.

Swedish audio device developer Urbanista recently revealed a pair of earbuds charged exclusively by indoor or outdoor light.

Urbanista's unique earbuds are expected to be on sale within the fourth quarter of 2022, according to The Verge.

Urbanista mentioned in its announcement that its upcoming earbuds, the Phoenix Earbuds, are the world's first self-charging true wireless earbuds that constantly charge the earbuds when stored in their case even when indoors or outdoors.

The earbuds' case is capable of constantly charging the audio devices thanks to its Powerfoyle solar cell material that recharges whenever it is exposed to all forms of light.

The Verge mentioned in its article that Urbanista's decision to utilize solar energy to power the earbuds is sensible due to the earbuds' size. However, the publication voiced its concern about users making the effort to keep the solar cell material exposed to the sun's rays as most users would be putting the case in their pockets or bag while being on the go.

When faced with low light conditions, the Urbanista Phoenix can last through such situations due to its 32-hour-long battery life. This longevity allows the earbuds to continuously play music even when the lights are out for long periods.

To be specific, the earbuds can store up to eight hours within their internal batteries, while the case will retain enough charge for 24 hours.

The earbuds are also equipped with touch controls and an intelligent voice assistant, providing their wearer with complete control of their audio experience.

These touch controls can be edited through its companion app, as well as adjusting the audio to the user's preference. The earbuds also have hybrid active noise canceling and noise-reducing microphones that guarantee a crystal clear experience in any environment.

Finally, the Urbanista Earbuds have IPX4 water resistance, making them usable while working out. It also has Bluetooth 5.2 support, a USB-C charging port when there is not enough light to charge the batteries as advertised, and a transparency mode for hearing your surroundings even when the earbuds are worn.

The earbuds even have the option of connecting to two devices simultaneously.

The First Solar Powered Earbuds?

Although Urbanista claims that the Phoenix Earbuds are the first Powerfoyle-powered earbuds, that may not be entirely true. a company named Pearl Audio previously opened an Indiegogo campaign to crowdfund a similar pair of earbuds.

Opening Pearl Audio's Indiegogo page reveals that it last updated the page in November 2021 and that its backers have stormed its comments section with their demands for a refund.
