DROP Reveals LOTR-Licensed Mechanical Keyboards; Available for Preorder Now

J.R.R. Tolkien is a celebrated writer as well as a linguist. Without the latter skill, he wouldn't have been able to create the writing and language the elves and dwarves use in "The Lord of the Rings" series.

Thanks to the collaboration of two companies, people will soon be able to unleash their inner elf or dwarf as they type away using a special mechanical keyboard.

Computer peripheral device developer DROP has recently revealed it has created mechanical keyboards that feature Tolkien's Elvish and Dwarvish writing in collaboration with Middle-Earth Enterprises.

The mechanical keyboards are currently available for preorder and will be available for direct purchase at the start of October.

Gamespot mentioned in its article that both keyboards are built with "premium materials for an enthusiast-level look and feel."

DROP's LOTR-licensed mechanical keyboard comes in two options: one that comes with Elvish writing while the other comes with Dwarvish, per DROPS' online store.

The Elvish keyboard has a TKL layout with a green ENTR anodized aluminum case, which features custom artwork by OSHETART depicting the Two Trees of Valinor.

The Two Trees of Valinor were the first sources of light for the Middle-Earth universe, per the LOTR Fandom. According to Tolkien's lore, a fruit from each of the two trees will eventually become Middle-Earth's Sun and Moon.

In addition to the case, the mechanical keyboard also comes with various keycaps sets in Elvish consisting of the training Elvish base kit, which has Latin alpha sub legends, and selections from the "Autumn in Rivendell Kit" and other novelties.

Finally, the mechanical keyboard has white backlighting as well as DROP's Phantom Stabilizers and Holy Panda X Switches to give users a "tactile typing experience worthy of the 'Elven' title."

As for the Dwarvish mechanical keyboard, everything in the Elvish mechanical keyboard has been switched to Dwarvish. The color scheme also reflects the stony halls the Dwarves call home, with dark gray and gold replacing the Elves' green and orange.

The Dwarvish mechanical keyboard also features the Doors of Durin, which can be seen in Peter Jackson's "the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," when the Fellowship is about to enter the Dwarven kingdom of Moria to escape Saruman.

OSHETART has also done the artwork for the Doors of Durin for the mechanical keyboard.

The Dwarvish mechanical keyboard also comes with a Training Dwarvish base Kit and selections from the "Durin's Forge Kit." It even has other novelties that make the keyboard feel like it was worked on by Dwarven hands.
