Google Chrome Users Update ASAP! Latest Patch Fixes Actively Exploited Zero-Day Vulnerability

Google Chrome users are now urged to install the latest update as it patches a zero-day security vulnerability known as CVE-2022-2856, which attackers actively exploit.

The widely-used web browser, Chrome, has roughly over 3 billion users in various countries around the globe.

But now, these Chrome users are exposed to an actively exploited security flaw, which could be avoided by installing the latest update.

Google Chrome Update

The search engine giant revealed its latest update on August 17, Wednesday, disclosing what the new release brings to the table, according to a recent report by ArsTechnica.

Google noted that its all-new update is available on various desktop platforms, such as Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The new Chrome version for Windows carries the code 104.0.5112.102/101, whereas the release for Mac and Linux goes by the name 104.0.5112.101.

The renowned tech giant states that the latest update is rolling out to its users across the globe in the next few days or weeks.

However, ArsTechnica notes in its news story that Chrome users could opt to manually update their web browser to get the latest patch early on.

But given that the latest release carries a fix for a high-severe security flaw, the best thing to do is to get it as soon as possible.

Chrome Patches Another Zero-Day Vulnerability

The latest release of the web browser fixes several security flaws.

But what makes this update highly necessary is its patch for a high-severity vulnerability, which goes by the codename CVE-2022-2856, as per a news story by Life Hacker Australia.

Google says that the latest Chrome release patches a total of 11 security flaws in the widely-used web browser.

It is worth noting that most of them are high severity vulnerabilities, while the others are medium-severity. But on top of that, there is a single critical and high-severity flaws.

Google discloses that the new update fixes six high-severity issues, along with another three medium-severity ones.

However, one of them, which carries a high-severity label, makes the new release highly important.

Zero-Day Vulnerability: Why Should You Be Worried?

No less than the renowned search engine has confirmed that the high-severity flaw, CVE-2022-2856, is actively exploited by cyber attackers, essentially making it a zero-day vulnerability.

It means that Chrome users clinging to the older update of Chrome are exposed to attacks.

Unlike most security flaws, a zero-day vulnerability could potentially allow criminal minds to access the system of its targets.
