In a photo taken on November 12, 2020, a gamer plays on the new Sony Playstation PS5 at his home in Seoul after Sony launched the new console in select markets around the world.

But could this be pitted against the current offering of its close rival, the Xbox Elite Series 2?

Sony's PlayStation DualSense Edge Controller

According to a recent report by IGN, the all-new offering of Sony looks closely like what the current DualSense looks like from afar. But few high-end upgrades set this bad boy apart.

For instance, the news outlet noticed that the analog sticks from the controller seemingly showcase a new surface. And as for the rear of the DualSense Edge, it now has paddle switches or back buttons.

But besides these visual updates, the new PlayStation controller also flaunts extreme customizability without compromising its performance.

PlayStation DualSense Edge: Is It Worth It?

A news story by PC Gamer reports that the new DualSense Edge still features the same functions that its standard sibling readily flaunts, along with a couple of new additions.

In fact, the new controller comes with customization options, which lets gamers tweak it depending on their gaming style.

If we are going to be less vague, it offers options that allow users to optimize it for shooter games. It lets them reduce the trigger travel so it could produce faster inputs in return.

And what's more, the Edge enables its users to tune its dead zones and stick sensitivity. But the best part is that users could entirely remap these new controllers.

No less than the art director of the new DualSense controller, Daisuke Kurihara, says that "they wanted to build on the legacy of iconic PlayStation controllers," as per the latest blog post by the PlayStation blog.

And to do so, they created "a controller that empowers players to experiment and personalize elements based on their own unique playstyle," Kurihara adds.

He further highlighted that the new controller in town suits users "whether they are a competitive gamer or someone who just enjoys having more options to customize their play."

Xbox Elite vs. DualSense Edge

It is hard not to compare the all-new DualSense Edge as Sony introduced it with similar capabilities as the Elite Series 2 controllers. Not to mention that Xbox and PlayStation are undisputedly close rivals.

LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 16: Game enthusiasts and industry personnel walk between the Microsoft XBox and the Sony PlayStation exhibits at the Annual Gaming Industry Conference E3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center on June 16, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.
Much like the Xbox Elite, the Edge carries similar customizability like the remap option, tuning functions, and trigger travel adjustments.

That's not all. Both controllers also provide swappable stick caps, which vary in options, such as a low dome, high, and standard.

There are also two choices for the back buttons, either high dome or low.
