Google Play Games Beta for PC Expands

According to a recent report by XDA Developers, Google initially debuted its gaming service to a few Southeast Asian nations early this year, or last March, to be more precise, which includes Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

After several months since the search engine giant launched the beta service, it is now expanding to more territories across the globe, such as Australia and Thailand.

Given that, the gaming platform of Google for Windows is now available in five countries, albeit still in the early beta stage.

As per the news story by The Verge, the open beta of Google Play Games is available to anyone as long as they make it to the list of the limited slots available.

The search giant follows a "first-come, first-served" rule in adding accounts to the open beta.

However, if you miss your chance, The Verge notes in its report that the gaming service for PC would be opening more slots as it continues to roll out.

It is worth noting that folks in the United States have yet to get their hands on the Google Play Games beta for PC users.

Google Play Games Lower System Requirements

Besides the expansion, Google also refined some aspects of its PC gaming service.

Some of these apps look legitimate on Google’s app store despite having to carry malicious payloads.

XDA Developers highlights in its news story that the app now welcomes more PC users as it has lowered its minimum system requirements.

To be more precise, the Google PC app no longer needs eight logical cores for its CPU requirements. Instead, it could now run with only four physical cores, allowing support for lower-end or older processors.

On top of that, Google also ditched the need for a separate GPU for its gaming app, allowing PCs with an integrated counterpart to join the fun.

And what's more, Google Play Games now only requires its users to have at least 10 GB of storage to run the app.
