It is probably the understatement of the year to say that there thousands of movies streaming right now on Netflix. In fact, if you actually want to just pick one movie to watch by browsing the streaming platform, it can get super overwhelming. 

To help viewers, Netflix has classified its library of films and series into different categories to make it easier to find something to watch based on genre, theme, and more. Believe it or not, Netflix has gotten pretty specific with their categories and there are a number of them you didn't think existed, but they do.

It can get tiresome to browse through the thousands of movies and TV series on Netflix if you're looking to pick one at random. Knowing the available categories and their codes will help you narrow down their your. 

By now, you are probably wondering what we mean when we say category code. Well, each category has a code, which you will need when you type up the URL should you wish to browse for movies and series under a particular genre, theme, and the like. 

For example, you want to browse for historical documentaries. The category code for that is 5349. Just type https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/5349 on your browser and voila! You'll find a list of historical documentaries to browse.

As we previously mentioned, Netflix has gotten pretty specific with its category or genre codes. Here are 10 of those that you might know actually exist: 

90-Minute Movies (Category Code: 81466194) 

Wanna watch a movie but you only have less than two hours to spare for it? Well, Netflix has the perfect category for you called 90-Minute Movies. As its name suggests, movies in this category are roughly around 90 minutes long. 

As of writing, the movies included in this category are "A Quiet Place," "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," "Meet the Spartans," and "Zombieland."

Animal Tales (Category Code: 5507)

As its name suggests, animals take the center stage in this category. If you happen to be after animated animal series or movies, this is also the perfect category for you. 

"Oggy and the Cockroaches," "Paw Patrol," "Peppa Pig," are some of the animated series included in this category. As for animated animals, "Bee Movie," "Madagascar," and "Ponyo" are just some of the options you can pick from.
