Windows 10 KB5017380 Preview Cumulative Update: Here’s What You Should Know

Windows 10 users can now expect a better experience with their devices.

Microsoft has recently released its latest update for its Windows 10 operating system (OS), which gives users an improved taskbar and fixes for the OS' various remaining bugs and issues.

Users should check the "Check for Updates" page on the Settings page if they are eligible to download and install the update, per Bleeping Computer.

Microsoft Windows 10 KB5017380 Update Features, Improvements, Fixes

Microsoft mentioned on a Windows Support page that it released the KB5017380 update on Sept. 20 for Windows 10 OS builds 19042.2075, 199043.2075, and 19044.2075.

According to the Washington-based tech giant, the update features improvements to the OS taskbar, the Microsoft Store, and various fixes for a handful of issues currently experienced with the OS.

Let's start with the taskbar first. Microsoft mentioned that the taskbar can now display news and interests in any orientation. Meanwhile, the top, left, and right taskbars now have features and settings similar to their usual bottom orientation.

This improvement is necessary for Microsoft 10 users as they can now use the taskbar to search up the controls for the OS' news and interests feature. Additionally, users can modify them to their preference using the Settings app.

For users to modify the settings for its news and interests feature, they have to open the Settings app and click on the Personalization button for them to find the Taskbar tab on the left side of the window.

Clicking on the Taskbar tab and "News and interests" will display the settings that users can modify.

Aside from the taskbar, KB5017380 also fixes certain issues with the current OS. For example, Windows 10 users that installed an app not from the Microsoft Store after upgrading to Windows 10 or 11 will no longer need to reinstall it.

Additionally, using more than one display will no longer provide Windows 10 users with multiple displays with a trip to a blue screen, which is caused by an error.

The update also addresses the issue that makes IE mode tabs reload during a session and the one that affects IE mode after opening a PDF file.

Furthermore, the update gives Windows 10 users the fix to the issue affecting Microsoft Japanese IME when the IME mode and itself are active.

The previous issue of the IME was when it inserted the wrong character when using the numeric pad to type in a dash (-).

Finally, the update also fixes the issues affecting the search box's rendering when in tablet mode and various system issues when daylight saving time is used in Chile.

How To Check If You're Eligible For KB5017380

Windows users can have this update installed by going to the "Windows Update tab on the Settings app and clicking on "Check for Update" to manually search for updates if the update is yet to be downloaded and installed automatically.

Installing the update will update Windows 10 20H2 to build 19042.2075, while Windows 10 21H1 will become build 19043.2075. On the other hand, installing the latest update will turn Windows 10 21H2 to build 19044.2075

Businesses using Windows 10 can get the same features at a later security update.
