Apple just recently unveiled the iPhone 14 model lineup on September 7. The company initially anticipated that the demand for its new flagship will boost up, thus, it decided to ask its suppliers to increase the iPhone 14 production.
However, it seems that there will be changes as the tech company decided to drop its plans to increase production of iPhones 14 this year after the expected strong demand did not happen, according to Bloomberg.
Lower Sales of iPhone 14 is Observed This Year
Apple is calling off initial plans to increase iPhone 14 production after the demand for the said device falters.
According to MacRumors, the Cupertino-based company has told its suppliers to halt its efforts in increasing the production of iPhone 14 by six million units.
Prior to the launch of the iPhone 14 a few weeks ago, Apple asked its suppliers to ramp up the supply of the unit anticipating a boost in sales. However, it appears that the much-anticipated strong demand did not materialize.
Given the low demand of iPhone 14, Apple decided to just aim at producing 90 million handsets for the time being. The said amount is the same with what the company produced in 2021.
The production of 90 million handsets is also in accordance with the original forecast of the tech company this summer.
According to Bloomberg, the higher-priced iPhone 14 Pro models has a stronger demand than the entry-level unit.
This could mean that one Apple supplier could be shifting production capacity from lower-priced iPhones to premium models instead.

iPhone 14 Pro is the Best-Selling iPhone Model
9to5Mac noted that at this time of the year Apple should be typically increasing its production in order to meet the demand of the holiday season sales.
According to sources, Apple initially aimed to increase the production of the iPhone 14 by "at least 6 million more units by the end of the year." However, this plan is being called off as sales are not strong enough to justify the increase in production.
The company just recently asked Foxconn to boost the production of iPhone 14 Pro by 10%, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The analyst said that this year's Pro models has the highest demands among all iPhone models. On the other hand, regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have been performing poorly in the market.
One of the contributory factors for the low sales of the iPhone 14 model is China's economic slump.
According to MacRumors, the sales of iPhone 14 models in the first three days since it is released is down by 11 percent as compared to last year's iPhone 13 series.
Other factors such as surging inflation, recession fears, and the war in Ukraine are all having an effect to the demand for the product.
A few weeks ago, Apple released four new iPhone models: the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
While the entry level iPhone 14 model does not have major upgrades from its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro model has always-on display with Dynamic Island, a 48-megapixel wide camera, and the new A16 Bionic chip.
