Amazon’s New Fire TV Cube: Here’s What You Should Know

There is a new Fire TV Cube in the house, and it seems to be the best Amazon has yet to offer so far.

The popular e-commerce company recently unveiled its latest Fire TV Cube, which is said to be "Fire TV's most powerful streaming media player yet."

Amazon's new Fire TV Cube will be available for purchase sometime in late October, but interested customers can preorder the device at Amazon now.

Amazon mentioned in its announcement that the new Fire TV Cube is the company's best Fire TV streaming media player yet, and it comes with a design that makes it look like an upscale smart speaker, per Tech Crunch.

Amazon vice president of Entertainment Devices and Services Daniel Rausch described it as "the fastest, most powerful, and most versatile streaming media player ever made," and it shows.

The new Fire TV Cube has the hardware to back Rausch's claim up. The device features an octa-core 2.0 GHz processor that allegedly makes it 20% more powerful than its predecessors. Thanks to this new processor, launching apps are faster and more fluid.

The device also has the capability of providing 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR, and Dolby Atmos Studio for better immersion.

As for connectivity, the new Fire Cube TV comes equipped with an HDMI input port, Wi-Fi 6E support, and Super Resolution Upscaling.

The HDMI port can be connected directly to compatible media players, such as cable boxes, Blu-ray layers, and other similar devices, allowing them to be controlled by its user's voice thanks to its Alexa support.

This new feature gives users the option of giving out instructions to the device using voice commands or using the Fire TV Cube remote that comes with it to control the device.

The device also features a USB port that can be used to connect webcams, allowing users to video call anyone with Alexa communications.

Although it isn't clear if video calling people is possible with the Fire TV remote, users can initiate a video call by saying something like "Alexa, call mom." The Fire TV Cube will then initiate a video call with the contact in question, with the user's TV becoming a monitor for the resulting voice call.

Aside from its HDMI and USB ports, the device's Wi-Fi 6E support and Ethernet port provide users with "a smooth entertainment experience" without much interference from other Wi-Fi devices at home, per GSMArena.

Last but not least is its Super Resolution Upscaling, which converts HD content into 4K, providing better sharpness as well as "greater detail, contrast, and clarity." Although Amazon claims this feature is a first for a streaming device, CNET reports that Oppo Blu-ray players have a similar feature through the HDMI port.

Amazon Fire TV Cube Availability And Price

Amazon's new Fire TV Cube is now available for preorder at Amazon's official website for $139.99, with the device becoming available for direct purchase on Oct. 25.

Unfortunately, the device can only be pre-ordered in the US, and it is unknown if and when Amazon will make it available to the rest of the world.
